    Default Thinking about politics.

Well I have 4 months of continued employment at my current job and another 4 months pay/benefits after that severance so 8 months total pay etc of notice. I have no intention of starting over in the computer industry and I have been thinking about going into politics for a while now. This spring I finished my second degree in History as part of that path to politics. I felt having a strong background in History would be a good place to start.

Anyone have an advice or experience in the political arena? My current life path has not been a classic rise to politics but I feel that can be overcome.

I'm curious what made you want to go into politics? I have no real idea how you would go about it just curious what would lead you to go that route. Think of it as early campaigning lol.

I think public service is one of the higher things you can do in life. Also for the last 8 years or so I have met a wide range of people from all over the US as well as other countries in my travels for Dell. One thing I have found is that 100% of the people all had something to say, but none of them did anything about it. Jan of 2007 I went back to school and over 3 semesters of schooling while working full time I got my History degree as I felt that was a good place to start.

I intend to start at the local level. Some sort of city office, or city councilman of some sorts etc and work my way up to state senate prolly. The last election I looked at some of the numbers. Biggest thing is people just do not vote. The county my mom is from cast a total of 170 votes. Thats county not small hick town. I could win some sort of election if all I did was just rent a van and picked up people and took them to the voting center.

But I want to be one of the people that does something. Not sit around a table drinking bear bitching about it like everyone else.

You could always figure out what possible path in politics you want to take and look at the resumes of some that are holding those positions.

You could probably make more money working at Home Depot.
The poetry that comes from the squaring off between,
And the circling is worth it,
    Finding beauty in the
    dissonance

Generally there is a very classic path to politics. It starts with high school doing things like class office and community involvement. Then many get into various volunteer work and internships etc while they finish High School and collage, Political Science and that. Its not unheard of for someone outside this path to get into politics, but I will be at a disadvantage over those who have.

I will make more in unemployment in 4 months than working at home depot.
