Default MB PITA Fair Use Policy

Started boxing , 11th August. Just got informed that we exceed our monthly bandwidth limit. Never that a problem prior to MB.

Normal allowed amount: 40Gb bandwidth used prm
Last Month: 70Gb bandwidth used prm
(They want to charge an extra £5 a month )

1 x WOW folder used for all 4 instances of the game.

WTF, changing ISP ( Talk Talk PITA) is not an option, so basically i think i have to stop Quadboxing my Shaman T.T

    Anyone else had this problem?

wow... I 5 box and run regular torrents and don't use up that much bandwidth. Do you have wireless? is someone possibly leeching off of you? Cuz thats alot in 1 month. Does wow even use that much?

I think if you do the math on that, you'll come in under 40gb. And £5 a month more? So what. if you're boxing and £5 is squeezing you.. you should probably stop boxing.
The money is not the problem, i offered to pay the extra but by they dont want to do that, so WTH is eating up bandwidth then ... puzzled..

I have two laptops that connet to the network via wireless occasionly , but the router is WPA encrypted with a heavy pass.

We asked for some proof, so im waiting for that we dont even download anything like movies or games so i dont understand it. Its like since i started now Bandwidth is being exceeed.. >.>

Change your router password. From a wired connection.

WPA is better then WEP, but it's still easy to crack. If you've got a squatter, all they need is a good 8 hours of traffic to get enough packets in order to crack it.

Another thing you might consider is enabling white/black listing, and put your MAC addresses on the white list, blacklist everything else. That way, even if someone cracks your WPA key, they still cannot use your router unless they crack your admin password.

mac addresses can be spoofed. your best bet (if your worried about someone leeching off your bandwidth is to go aes) But i dont thats necessary.

if you would like to learn more, the best place for security info is to go to www.grc.com. Steve Gibson is awesome at explaining things. I remember him mentioning with a wpa 128 bit encryption it would take someone months if not years to crack. he has a lot of podcast going back several years. he also has a random password generator i would recommend using called perfect passwords thats on his website. Hope this helps and good luck.

Timing wise, the cause would seem to be myself multiboxing causing the spike last month. But i just find it hard to believe tbh. MAC addresses for my PC's are whitelisted, so thats covered. Which means im the only source for the problem.

Thing is i just got a new pc and havent downloaded a thing, thats the same said for my family.

Hopefully Talk Talk should be able to provide some evidence, on what the bandwidth was actually consumed on?

If is was consumed by downloads then my router is insecure, but if its not then it must be me boxing.

My water company tried charging me $1200 one month it took months to work that out. If someone is leeching your bandwidth walk around your neighborhood and smack anyone sitting in a car with a laptop over the head with a hammer. :P

Suggest yeh get an add blocker for when yeh browse the web. maybe even turn pics off on yer browser?
Kill flash, java and any other addon on yer browser, these are the big bandwidth hogs.
