He didn't even had a 5v5 team, but anyways, I see all of you veteran multiboxers are like "Shyt im low in 1700-1800 rating " so that should be the true - assuming one is geared- and that's all.
For solely PVP, I feel 5 toons has no advantage, and 4 is completely sufficient (I used to be a 5boxer, dropped 1 account and never looked back). 5 can start to be a pain because you'll have to musical chairs your toons for arena, which can jumble the personal ratings a bit.

Back to arena talk, Gear is step #1 yes, but please don't get into arena boxing thinking its a free 2k team. Too high of expectations will lead to disappointment and burnout. Success above 1800 takes great setup/macros, a great partner, and mostly - SHIT TONS of practice (I've been playing since season2). Keep pursuing any gear upgrades you can get, as that is the TIME limiting factor, but poor playstyle will hold you back even worse than gear.

Its not impossible obviously - but it takes a tireless commitment, tons of patience, and adjustments. If you find yourself beating your head against the wall, CHANGE something up. Keep in mind you are 80% of the team... so every little tweak can bring about BIG increases in success.

well i do all of the Hc's, usually ignoring oculus.. to much hassal. i suggest you start with hmm UK/HoL/Gundrak. thous are fairly easy imo.

    /Edit
There is a sticky with tactics for most of them if you take a look in the pve forum.

I tested some arena games to see what its like now days. it was fun and enlightening. i suggest you keep stacking up gear. i have roughly 20k hp 2k sp in my hateful pvp gear and i do ok for not have been playing arena seriously from S3. (4W-6L, 1 loss was me not turning on keybroadcasting so slaves just stood there watching the fun. lol)

A little tip, you need Hit/Spell Penetration also for pvp.
You need to support heal some times. (at least that is my experience)
Not sure +10 all stats is the way to go when gemming your gear out. I have been stacking res, sp and spell penetration/hit. but that is my opinion.
A little comfort is that you will survive longer the better gear you get.
And as Asonimie says. Dont give up. Learning curve can be long sometimes. But you really need to practice to get better at it.

You'll get owned until you have at least 19k hp and 700 resilience.
Well even then you'll get owned by a lot of classes

can barely keep myself alive with 21.5k hp and 830 resil against 4-5 people

You get the same number of arena points (344), for doing your 10 games a week, as a 1500 rated team, even at 0 rating.
