Default Pally Groups what spec is main?

Hey for all the pally groups out there what spec are you running on main for pvp? I was thinking prot just for the ability to soak damage and toss a snare. Has anyone tried anything different? One thing I was thinking is that I could give my prot paladin PvP gear (he's wearing full pve tank gear now) OR make him go ret like all the others. Just curious what setups everyone has.

Right now I seem to do alright and my pallies arent even 80 yet. I imagine when they get 80 and can put on their deadly gear they will faceroll a lot of people.

Going through the process of gearing my guys up at the moment. Armory here:

My main is prot spec, and he is ALWAYS the last to die when I get zerged, it's crazy how long he can last. If I really want to annoy people, after Ardent Defender procs, I can use Lay on Hands to heal to full, then bubble when I'm low and heal to full again.

The other great thing about having main as prot spec is Avengers shield. Not only is it good for closing distance on runners (mainly for getting into range of repentance), but the silence effect is great for shutting down druids / locks / mages who try to AoE your group down.

    Cheers,

I have heard of folks who have stayed prot and use Holy PVP gear. Still hard to kill but with the ability to heal more often.. lol. I am not sure how well it would do but it sounds hilariously annoying for the opposing faction.

I often wonder how well 5 prot paladins can do. 5x Avenger's Shield would be mightily annoying and I'm sure deadly. The problem would be that you all would run oom with no one healing.

They might survive a long time but a prot does very little damage compared to ret.

prot with ret gear and a few tweaks on talents can actually be very competitive to ret. It's kind of like the current prot/holy healing thing, and should only get better when they change Touched by the Light to key off strength instead of stamina. I still think ret is better over, but I wouldn't underestimate that configuration.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I have 1 prot and 4 rets and do AV a lot. Like Stealthy said, main is very hard to kill..think i am going to dual spec main to ret when i get caught up on gear a bit and see how that goes. These pallies are just awesome so far. love them!

Actually my prot paladin can take out 80 pvp geared guys as long as they dont have a heal. You'd be surprised how hard some of my abilities hit. 5k+ and Avengers Shield, when glyphed, can crit for close to 10k. Imagine 5 of those lol.
