Thread: Belkin n52

  1. #1

    Default Belkin n52

So I've had mine probably going on 6 years now. I got to thinking how many buttons I'm wasting by using the wasd for controlling my guys(I still use the n52 but the wasd is bound on it).

    What I'm using atm.

So I was wondering how you guys are doing your profiles? Do you move with the D-pad? If you do how do you manage jumping? I find it hard to picture a good way to jump and still use the D-pad for movement. Do you use the shift states? Haven't really found a use for them yet either. One state has been plenty of buttons for the most part.

I moved to a G13 some time ago, but I spent years on the N52.

I moved with the D-pad, now I move with the thumb stick on the G13.

Jumping was (and still is) done with my G9 mouse : tilting the mouse wheel to the left. I never run and click at the same time anyway so that's quite a few options left on the mouse side.

I barely used the shift states. Only actions on alternate shift states would be things that are not used often, like forming the group, disbanding, porting to the inn, profession related buttons, etc ...

Moving with the D-pad takes some getting used to, but it is really worth it in terms of number of keys saved. You should give it a try. If I remember correctly, it took me about a WE to stop looking for the WASD keys (well, technically ZQSD keys on my French keyboard )

n52te - not put a lot of thought and effort into this so it's pretty basic

    main pad

    shift 1 2 3 4
    ctrl 5 6 7 8
    alt 9 0 -

    thumb pad

    =

    scroll wheel

    scroll up
    scroll down
    esc (on press)

    button above d-pad

    space

    d-pad

    up
    down
    left
    right

I've never made so many options in a macro I needed more than just the control key so I bound lctrl to the orange button above the dpad. then I made the upper dpad button turn left, the forward one up, the low one closest to the "15 button" turn right and the last place is back. Using it this way I have the 15 key bound to space bar, so I can move around with the mouse and DPad in concert and use the knuckle on my thumb to jump. All the other buttons are just 1 - = and numpad0 and 1. with those 14+lctrl mod on my left hand I have plenty of binding options to cover just about everything.

My 5 button mouse with it's extra little search button (a sixth button :P) bound to mount, handles the left/right clicking plus auto-run and "follow me" on the main. The middle mouse button (clicking scrollwheel) sends left click to all the alts and holding lctrl and pressing it handles the right click passing.

Anything I can't do on those 2 is handled with the F1-F12 keys, but thats pretty much just buffing/changing gear/spec type stuff.

In PvE I use the remainder of the numpad keys for specialized healing

if you can learn to move with your mouse, itll greatly increase what you can do with the game pad. but it also helps to have a mouse with alot of buttons to program (mx revolution for example).

I use the D-pad to move.
I own a 5 button mouse and have bound one of the extra buttons to jump.
I use one of the other mouse side buttons and bound it to shift. I did this so that I could double my keybinds on my n52. For example, I have all my n52 regular buttons bound to F-keys for one set of keybinds, and another set of binds set to those F-keys + shift on my mouse.

Using the D-pad frees up all of your fingers to hit keybinds while you're moving. People who reach for buttons while holding a WASD movement buttons are doing it horrible wrong. It feels awkward at first, but force yourself to adapt and you'll never go back. The difference is about as much of an impact as going from clicking to keybinds.

I've always used the mouse for steering, so all I really used for movement keys mostly was a forward or back button.

So I have my n52 keys set up like this:

    1 2 3 4 5
    Tab 6 7 8 9
    0 - = rctrl

(rctrl is my vent ptt key)

I have the Orange button set to "[" for targeting main's target and interact(with lctrl) and the side thumb set to "]" for follow main and target main(with lctrl) .

I have the wheel on the n52 set to send "s" to all when i roll it down, so i can hit the thumb side for follow and flip the wheel to get everyone pointed at the tank while in combat without them running in.

On the d-pad I have forward and back normal for the main, and left and right do strafe left and right for all.

And then on the mouse, I have buttons 4 and 5 set to send modifiers ctrl and alt so i can do more on the n52 without having to deal with shift/color modes. I use the center wheel click for jump. I never autorun, if i need to do something like that i have click to move enabled.

my d-pad is used for forward, back and strafes left and right. thumb button is jump.
    top row is 67890
    middle row is 12345
bottom row is tab alt - =

for boxing, my main usually will use most of the buttons. my alts will use only 67890, sometimes -= and also alt (12345). many combinations. i dual and tri box. keeps it kinda simple. but 5-boxing might require more keys from your keyboard should you need to swtich leaders, etc. i cant use my scroll wheel on the n52. its too stiff to actually do anything. so is the big orange button. now my n52te is a bit better.
