Default How are you handling movement?

The biggest roadblock for me has been movement. Not standing in fire / poison / whirlwinds / facerapingcarnage.

I pass all keys by default, and use a number of keymaps to direct input. My primary setup is done via ISBoxer (Not that it matters for this particular question). I move with my main using the mouse. If I need to move everyone left or right, I just strafe as you would with a single toon, Q and E, and the same with turning / forward / backwards. Am I doin' it wrong? I spent about 2 hours in reg ToC last night and the biggest issue I had was moving my toons.

Should I setup the arrow keys to only move slaves and blacklist so that I can move my main with the normal keys?

How do you guys handle moving out of the fire?

I Blacklist WASD, leaving the arrows and strafe keys for move all. I also sometimes use my spread macro to move if I'm in a position where using the other options would move ToonA out of the pool of Pain and Death, but put other toons into it.

If all else fails...interact or all follow and spread again. I suppose Click to move + mouse broadcasting could always be an inelegant solution, too...but most movement is inelegant anyway.

In TOC I don't move my characters at all. Just make sure that all your characters are spread out far enough to prevent more then one char getting hit by the aoe.

Ya ToC shouldnt require much movement, except for final boss. However I have changed the tactic of moving my guys out of his Death and Decay. I leave them in it and instead focus on killing all of his adds. Boss should stick to tank, no problem, while you focus them down. That way there is no need to strafe when they start exploding. For the rogue poison put up a nature resist totem and make sure all guys are standing about 5 yards from each other so only one gets hit.

Oh and to answer your question I use the same keys as you do Q and E for strafing my team. Seems to work really well.

Thanks for the replies, I'll see what I can come up with, sounds like blacklisting wasd and broadcasting q and e is the way to go.

I do not blacklist any key. I just made my keymap send Q and E to the slaves if I needed to strafe, but I did not include tank on the list and so he doesnt move with them. No need to use blacklist.

I use the following setup with Hotkeynet.

QWEASD are blacklisted for main only.
Shift + QWEASD move all clones and the main.
Alt + QWEASD move only clones, not the main.
Ctrl + QWE are different formations, with Ctrl + ASD being the reverse formations to stack up again.

This gives me plenty of options without having to move a hand over to the arrow keys, which is what I used to do before this setup.

Example - Safety dance - I stack all toons up and hit QA at the same time to strafe main and alts left, then ED to strafe back. Works like a charm as long as I get them aligned.

It did take about a week or two of forcing myself to use AD to get used to it. At first my hand/mind totally rejected the idea... wasn't easy. lol
    hmmm this sounds promising.

I move forth/back with arrow key's, turn around with the <- -> and strafe with my mouse. Works really good, atleast now that I'm used to it Got other key's to make em form a line for specific bosses ofc.

For my setup, I have basically 3 sets of keybinds.

Main = normal FPS/DOOM/Quake/etc. movement keys on the home row.
Alts ONLY = left/right/forward/back = arrow keys (not keypad)
    Everybody = left/right/forward/back = keypad arrow keys; strafe left/right = keypad 7/9

It is so rare that I have to move my tank around much (Eck and certain other mobs that charge/leap/spaz aside) that I can usually drop the mouse and handle movement pretty well with just keyboard. Helps a LOT on stuff like those dark caster trash mobs at the beginning of DtK that drop the shadow pools. Gotten good enough at it that I don't usually have to heal 'em anymore after that happens.
    Now playing: WoW (Garona)
