First of all, this morning it worked flawlessly and I am back up and running.

Making my software stop working overnight with no notice isn't me QQ'ing, it's me with a legitimate complaint. If you don't get that, then I'm not going to waste any time trying to convince you.

I'm very happy (read: couldn't give a shit) that the transfer process has worked so flawlessly for so many of you, but it didn't work - at all - for me last night.

Perhaps it's because I have six licenses registered to my email address. Perhaps it's because the upgrade policy forced too many people to access the servers at the same time. I don't know.

I registered for a GCPro trial and the email arrived within 30 seconds (that'll be one update interval - I poll email every 30 seconds, geniuses) . There is no problem whatsoever with my mail server.

The mail didn't get spam-blocked either. It just didn't arrive.

I've been a fan of KC since the VERY early days, and have never been critical of it before, but making the software stop working (not just stopping support, but stopping the software working) is totally unjustified.

I work in the real world. I understand product end-of-life and I understand mandatory patches and upgrades. What I don't understand is why it suddenly became imperative to force everybody to upgrade overnight.

A massive banner headline saying "1.8 will STOP WORKING on 1st September - upgrade before then!" would have been more appropriate. It's not even mentioned on KC's MotD.

In my real world you also don't upgrade software that's not broken UNTIL it becomes mandatory, which is exactly why I was so happy to stick with 1.8 even though 1.9 "works great" and has some "nice features" that I don't need.

So you fanboys who don't get why I'm pissed off that my software suddenly, and with no warning whatsoever stopped working overnight go and point your pitchforks at somebody else - I have a legitimate gripe here.

I agree with otlecs on this one - and I don't think he deserved bashing because he dared to say something that wasn't 100% positive about keyclone.

I think keyclone is a great piece of software but I don't think it's too much to ask for advance warning. Given keyclone has it's message of the day it's not as if it would have been difficult to do. I would have allocated additional time to allow for config so that my core play time wasn't impaced upon if i had known.

I'm also of the school that if something works fine, and with the features I want - then I wont be upgrading.
If i'd tried to get support for an old version I would fully expect to be told that it's an old version and that I'd have to upgrade if i wanted support. No biggy for me. Instead I was forced to download the new keyclone. It lost all my old configuration and required me to set everything up again.

Then when I logged out and logged back in (after hours of successful play ) it had lost everything again.
I'm hoping this is just because it wasn't configured to run in administrator mode so didn't have privilege to save setup.

However this is all hassle I don't need for an upgrade in software that I will use exactly as I did before.

Firstly, congrats on 1.9 - its a great improvement over the previous version and has made my MB life that little bit easier.

However, like other people, whenever I restart keyclone it loses all of my settings, so I have to set everything up again - any news on a fix for this?

    Thanks

Even though I was not directly concerned (started using keyclone after 1.9 release), I also completely understand Otlecs' point of view and agree he has legitimate reasons to be pissed.

I assumed this might be down to keyclone not running as administrator (but haven't tried it out yet).
(If you are running vista of course).

Try right clicking on the keyclone executable and selecting properties. THere's an option on there somewhere to run as administrator. Check that then run keyclone. Hopefully this will save settings.

So why actively force people - even people who aren't a support drain for you - to upgrade?

Just leave me in peace with my 1.8.
I agree with you on this, keyclone 1.9 doesn't work under linux (crashes after a few minutes) by blocking keyclone 1.8, i can't use keyclone at all anymore.

There are also other software solutions. While InnerSpace does require you run the current version it's an autopatcher when you start it up... and it's never had problems when I've upgraded... of course I'm only one user so your mileage may vary.
