Well after griping , I thought I should balance it out by saying that I love the new version of keyclone and I'm glad I upgraded.

It's been worth it for the maximizer changes alone. I box different amounts of characters and I tended to have one maximizer layout for 5 and just used that if i was boxing 3 or 4.

However with the maximizer presets I can change my config really quickly.

For example, last night I wanted to quest with my 4th shaman in the party. 10-15 seconds had the new screen layout set up, and allocated and I was off and running. While doing PVE i would be quite happy with having 1 big screen and 3 small ones tiled down the side, however for PVP I think I would prefer 4 equal size screens (I think Maximiser has this).
So now I can do so really quickly.

    Great job.

I agree with Otlecs. If you want to force people to update to a new version fine. If you want to stop the old version from working to minimize support emails fine.

But, and this is a big but, at least give us some notice. Making a sweeping change like this on a whim is not the way to do it. A KC MotD, or a sticky, or a banner ad or something saying "you have 5 days to update to 1.9, 1.8 will no longer function as of xx/xx/2009.

Forced upgrade, yeah... but i have to admit i'm happy about it because upgrading from 1.8 or whatever i was using to the current version to be able to set core affinities was freaking amazing. No lag in dalaran is awesome, so that set a cure for my laziness. Too everyone complaining, get over yourself, we don't care.

It's sad to see that there's actually a grain of truth in this. Sad, because I've been here a long time and always thought we were supposed to support each other.

Thanks to you and others in this thread for setting me straight on that one though. When something you don't want is foisted upon you and affects your game-time, I'll be sure to come out and gloat.

That's obviously how things work around here now.

the v1.9 versions were available in April, 4 months ago
Yes, I think we all realise that. Alot of us simply don't need all the new features you've been adding though and don't take all of your new builds.

The only features of KC that I use are single-host broadcasting, maximizer and launching. Everything else is just fluff.

You didn't announce a mandatory upgrade until the same day as you made it a forced reality, and people wouldn't even have known that unless they happened to have checked this forum before playing, because the mode of failure is absolutely identical to your servers being down (the generic - and almost always inaccurate - "Expired" message).

That's what some of us take umbrage at.

Recently had an old version of KeyClone stop working. With a little search on the website it was pretty easy to figure out how to get 1.9 up and running. It seems that pip is a little faster now also. All in all it was a pretty easy process. Still a good piece of software with good support. Thanks for everything.

Lets keep it civil. If you want to badmouth people, gtfo.

We ARE here to support each other. If you don't like how a dev is handling his product, let him know, stop using it if you really are unhappy, there ARE alternatives out there. I love keyclone, I have five licenses myself. Rob's not perfect, if you expect him to be, you're only setting yourself up for disappointment.

If you're pissed, that's fine, but keep it civil.

I'm fairly sure you're not aiming your "keep it civil" posts at me, Nova, but after the thread prune it reads that way so I feel the need to reply

Apart from my initial post - where the uncharacteristically colourful language was a true reflection of the frustration I felt at having my one evening of game time in the week thwarted for no obviously legitimate reason - I think I've been civil.

So let's be clear on this, then.

I still use Keyclone. It works fine. 1.9 does all the things 1.8 does. I have no idea what 1.9 does that 1.8 didn't, and will probably never find out because I don't care.

I still hold Rob in high regard, and I remain in awe of the effort he puts into Keyclone for what is a complete pittance to most professionals, especially helping people get up and running.

I think he made a msitake with this mandatory "it won't work any more" upgrade, and am disappointed that he doesn't see it that way, but I'm long over it.

It has once again shaken my faith in any sort of call-home software licensing though. *shrug*.

And I still won't be upgrading again until I'm forced to, but hopefully that won't happen again

Just to be clear, no, they weren't aimed at you.

    Default F3 problem

Since I've upgraded I've noticed when I hit my F3 button for chain heal/wild growth I'm getting the Search box come up. Really screws with the healing because it switches windows. I have another friend with keyclone 1.9 as well together we found that if we minimized the keyclone to the sys tray it no longer brings up the search box. Just wondering if this was an intended change, a bug or perhaps a windows upgrade I didn't know about. I just didn't ever have this happen until the 1.9 upgrade.

    Thanks,
