First of all, this morning it worked flawlessly and I am back up and running.
Making my software stop working overnight with no notice isn't me QQ'ing, it's me with a legitimate complaint. If you don't get that, then I'm not going to waste any time trying to convince you.
I'm very happy (read: couldn't give a shit) that the transfer process has worked so flawlessly for so many of you, but it didn't work - at all - for me last night.
Perhaps it's because I have six licenses registered to my email address. Perhaps it's because the upgrade policy forced too many people to access the servers at the same time. I don't know.
I registered for a GCPro trial and the email arrived within 30 seconds (that'll be one update interval - I poll email every 30 seconds, geniuses) . There is no problem whatsoever with my mail server.
The mail didn't get spam-blocked either. It just didn't arrive.
I've been a fan of KC since the VERY early days, and have never been critical of it before, but making the software stop working (not just stopping support, but stopping the software working) is totally unjustified.
I work in the real world. I understand product end-of-life and I understand mandatory patches and upgrades. What I don't understand is why it suddenly became imperative to force everybody to upgrade overnight.
A massive banner headline saying "1.8 will STOP WORKING on 1st September - upgrade before then!" would have been more appropriate. It's not even mentioned on KC's MotD.
In my real world you also don't upgrade software that's not broken UNTIL it becomes mandatory, which is exactly why I was so happy to stick with 1.8 even though 1.9 "works great" and has some "nice features" that I don't need.
So you fanboys who don't get why I'm pissed off that my software suddenly, and with no warning whatsoever stopped working overnight go and point your pitchforks at somebody else - I have a legitimate gripe here.
