thank you all for the help. on other forums all you get is flamed and called an idiot. the help was excellent and well thought out, smart buff is an excellent choice but i went with :

/castsequence [mod:Alt, target=toon2] Mark of the Wild, Thorns
/castsequence [target=toon1] Mark of the Wild, Thorns

this is exactly what i was looking for.
