Default Screen Res issues and keyclone

Ive been fiddling with screen rez issues and keyclone. I have a Nvidia 7950 GT with 2 19" LG flatron screens - 1280 x 1024 native res.

It seems that wow checks the GFX card's capabilities and does not allow you to select an invalid resolution of eg 1280 x 1024 ( when running in horzontal span mode) The nvidia utils wont even let you select this mode.

i set maximzer in keyclone to region me 2x 1280x1024 regions and that works fine, but in wow it sets the Rez to 800x600 which means i get a display that is streached to fix the region. It doesnt make a lot of difference on the graphics, but its very visible on the text.

i dont quite know how maximer does what it does, but its not letting wow know of the new "possible" resolutions. It dont even know if it can....

You should be able to specify this deep in nVidia's advanced options under custom resolutions.... or / and in WoW's config file.

But I can't say for sure those will work b/c I haven't played with them much. Just some thoughts.

In order to have WoW stop streching your screens, you need to go into your WoW folder/WTF there should be a config file in there. Open it with notepad and change the resolution to whatever you'd like.

I'm at work but i think the string in the config file is something like "SET gfxres 800x600"

I'm sure I'm not really close but that should give you something to work off of.

yep - did that - 1280x1024 is an invalid rez in horizontal span mode so wow resets it back to 800x600

once you change it in the config file dont ever go back into the video settings in WoW. Otherwise you have to reconfigure the resolution all over.

I dont have to - i can see the res aint correct. My bars are all squashed up.

If i disable maximzer in keyclone, switch to dualview and extend my desktop ( ie 2 seperate screens ) then it works (res stays as specified etc), but then i have the super low framerate issue because of direct X

wow seems to interrogate the gfx card ( or Dx ) to find out what resolutions are available and only presents you with options for that. The fact that maximizer has restricted it to a specific area of the screen does not feature when it determines the res that it will accept

hmmm... do you have a suggested solution? once i get back to working on keyclone (after this weekend) i'll be finishing the multi-monitor support thing. do you think this would be enough?

ok now i feel like a total noob.

I rebooted, reset to horizontal span and now it works just fine

my regions are 0,0,1280,1024 and 1280,0,1280,1024 ( in keyclone )

both screens now run at that res just fine. I dont know why it wouldnt before, but like any problem in windows, a reboot normally fixes it.
