Best Choice: Warlock + Mage/Priest?

Hello,

At the moment I'm waiting for a new server and meanwhile I'm thinking about what caster class combination is the best choice for leveling very fast (only from level 1 - 60 / RAF bonus).

The team have to have one warlock because I will play this character as my main character later.

So I'm thinking about the mage or the priest.
At the moment the mage is my favorite for the team because of "high damage", food/drink, very low mana cost, usually does not get oom when I multibox.
The priest - for sure - makes medium damage (40-60 it gets higher), medium mana cost, heal and resurrect.

The combination Warlock/Priest should be amazing for the possibility to die while leveling - I could set soulstone on the priest and resurrect both everytime - the question is just: Will I die or need heal so many times that this makes up the efficiency of the mage?
As a Warlock/Mage combination I don't think that I would die often, especially because of the pet and because I'm so not new in the game, so that I don't die often in general while leveling - sometimes yes, but usually when I play classes that require certain equipment, like warriors/rogues - melee is just not my thing.

What would you suggest?

I would go with a lock/priest combo as you'll barely ever need to stop to eat/drink plus you'll get the benefit of the locks pet (a mini holy trinity going on if you use the VW/Felguard).

A mage is useful for the food, int buff and portals but for a pure cloth group I think heals, the stam buff and dots the priest provides is more useful overall.

I had priest/lock to level along with my first holy priest (it was horrid leveling holy ages ago) and its quite awesome. Essentially just keep the priest idle except for pre-pull shield and lifetap maintenance.

The only problem I found was that the pets often ran oom too fast and manually casting taunts was the way to go. It also develops a lot of affinity skill. But with the priest you can quickly resummon a pet quite often.

When revisiting the warlocks and priest I really liked the new night elf changes to dump aggro.

I think I'd go with the warlock and priest. Only because the priest can have duel purposes instead of just having two dps'ers.

I also thought that most people will suggest the priest.

But when you really want to level fast you need a nice kill rate, too.
So you would say you think Warlock + Priest would be faster than Warlock + Mage because of..? Resurrection if I die and the healing (Warlock/Life Tap)?

For me being fast matters much more than "general suggestions". But you would still recommend a priest?

I can't decide, because it just depends on if or how often I would die - I'm sure a mage would kill faster, but the time of running to your corpse if you die also matters, and I don't think I'd die often.

Lock/Priest in SP works great I leveled my original trio with 2 locks and 1 SP with the shadow priest as the lead, worked great.

I single-boxed my first warlock as far as 70 and I found that I didn't have much downtime anyway. Dot, fear, drain, life tap, repeat. I don't think a priest tagging along would've made my leveling that much more efficient, though having the occasional resurrection (in the unlikely event that something which killed my lock didn't deal with the priest as well) might've been convenient.

I five-box but if I ever had to drop down to two accounts, I'd go with mage + demo lock for focus magic + arcane int + felguard +spell-on-crit. Maybe make both of them engineers for synchronized bombs, rocket boots, etc.

One of my first combinations was Warlock + Priest, on two boxes without any broadcast software.
The priest was Disc/Holy mix, and the warlock was Dest/Demo mix.
It worked fairly well.

The mage will, out of combat, heal as well as the Priest, as far as Lifetap out of combat heals go.
Just have the two toons duel, and a polymorph will top you off every quickly.
You can break the polymorph with a rank 1 spell, which will do next to no damage.

I'd still go with the Priest over a Mage.
You have the option for in-combat heals.
Fort and Spirit are a stronger buff option then Intellect.
If you want Intellect, a Felpuppy will eventually get you that anyway.
A Demo Warlock with Improved Health Funnel can solo most 5-man group quests of their level.
I'd imagine a priest would be better heals.

Until the Felguard, affliction is a very fast spec to level as a Warlock.
You have instant cast Agony and Corruption. The priest adds SW: Pain and Devouring Plague (30sec cd).
Howl of Terror is eventually instant cast. Psychic Scream gives you a second fear.
You can tap a lot of things and keep running, just stop to loot if you wish.
Pet of choice is imp, on passive if you take its mana.
Switch to succubus with Lash disabled once you get her as a pet; she's about as effective without the mana move and you can drain her mana too.

Affliction will be faster then a Felguard spec, if you pull masses of mobs of your level to 3-4 levels below you.
Demo will allow you to take much more difficult opponents down. Only a hunter will rival your ability at this.

At the moment I'm leveling a Paladin/Mage Combo for RAF and I think the heal is really good for some situations.

So I also might go with Warlock/Priest later.

A little question: Is it worth it to dot around everything and then loot or just to make Single Target damage? Is it really much faster? Because I see some problems with dotting around everything, because of pulling other mobs, increased change to die, ... Also the mobs in Azeroth doesn't have much life and if you do Single Target they die within some seconds.

The fastest leveling spec for a solo lock is Affliction.

Sure demonology can take much more difficult quests solo, once they have Felguard, especially if they've talented into Health Funnel.
But they cannot touch the sheer speed that an Aff-Lock levels.

Basically you have Corruption and Agony, instant cast dots.
Usually go with the succubus pet, with lash turned off, but the aggro dump on.
So effectively three dots. Used to have Siphon Life too.
Run around with a castsequence reset=target macro.
Tag a mob with 2-4 dots.
And tag the next one, never stopping.
Dark Pact for mana.
Howl of Terror is you have too many on you at once.

A priest has SW: Pain, which is a very strong dot.
Devouring Plague is good too, but there's a recast delay on it.
You could run Priest/Warlock, treating it as a single Affliction Lock quite easily.
Except you have two instant cast AoE fears instead of one.
And at least one extra strong dot, possibly two.
