Question AOE spots or low hp elites for 70 - 80 grinding?

So I'm currently leveling up from 70 to 80 5x Mages.

Since I skip collection quests, I'm a little on the 'under' side of quests and am progressing through the Wrath content a little too quickly.

So I was wondering if anyone knew any locations that are good for AOE grinding for 70 - 80.

Something with a lot of mobs packed tightly together.

I get between 20k to 25k per quest, but I get about 550 XP per kill.
If I could find some spot where I could kill a large number of NPC's with AOE, it would be nice to do that for just a bit to save some quests.

Also, elites give 2x experience, getting over 1k per kill right now.
5 Mages can cut one down pretty quick, as long as they don't have a lot of HP.

Anyone know good places for low HP elites in the 70 - 80 content?

    Default Instance Mage Grind

I am not sure what lvl or spec your mages are but as a lvl 70 frost mage i was able to solo the first few rooms in reg UK for about 8k rested and 4k reg exp. I am not sure how this does for you with 5 mages but i would bet its cake. Just clear to the dragon room and then reset. U might be able to burn them but they are immune to frost bolt slows, not sure about the arcane one.

Either Way it was good for me.

If one frost mage is good, 5 is better :P

Now that living bomb is castable on multi targets i would suspect 1 frost for control and 4 living bombs would rock...

Currently they are all level 72 and Arcane Specced.
I'll look into the possibility that UK may be a good place to visit. Thanks

I actually tried out AV last night as a way to gain XP.

I found that a level 72 it was far too easy for my group of 5 Mages to get decimated.

Example, a Rogue appeared out of nowhere and within 4 or 5 seconds all 5 Mages were dead thanks to the Rogues Fan of Knives AOE ability.

I also found that unless your team captures objectives and wins AV, you don't get very much experience at all.

Spending an hour playing 2 or 3 Alterac Valley's, not winning any, and walking away with maybe 50,000 XP really sucks.
Especially compared to the 3 or 4 quests at 23k each I could turn in during that time, in addition to the NPC kills I would have been making 500XP each from.

It was a lot of fun in AV, launching 5 arcane barrages followed up by 5 fire blasts taking down people left and right.
Blinking into a big group and AOE'ing the heck out of them causing a panic.

But for now AV just doesn't seem to be worth it.
Although I probably still will play 1 a night, just for fun and some honor points

yeah one rogue or any aoe'er will kill your whole group. when I level lowbies in AV i run my 4x shaman in furious/deadly gear and hold the choke point and recap towers. even as horde we seem to win.. lowbies get about 1.5-2 bars per game. if you don't win though, it's about half a bar....

I dunno, looking at how long it took me to quest/instance grind to 80, and then having to spend literally months grinding honor to gear up for pvp, I wish there had been bg leveling back then. Even if you lose every single game, and it takes approx 10 hours per level, that's about equivalent to trying to grind or quest with a 5 man group (the xp is just terrible in northrend for multiboxing). The only difference is, you'll pretty much have a full set of pvp gear the minute you hit 80.

Alliance is pretty predictable in AV, they do the same flawed rush strat every game. if you're squishy I recommend just hanging back until a few towers are capped, and then going and re-capping them. Any capable horde team will be able to win if you recap once or twice. Alliance also seems to have almost no 80s in AV anymore, it's all lowbies. I don't know if you have any 80 steam but it's actually quite easy to wipe alliance over and over at Drek because it's mostly 75-79s. Funny to see a group of twenty 70-somethings pop heroism and 30 cooldowns to kill 4 80s. meanwhile horde is up north winning

So since my last post, I've been playing a lot more.
I played AV a LOT on Friday and Saturday night and got nearly 2 levels.
If you win you get almost 10% of a level.
Add to that all the honor your accumulating it really is great.

I split my time about 20% questing, 80% AV.

It's really nice to finally have an alternative to gaining XP.
The ability to have all that honor by the time you first hit 80 is a big bonus too

So I'm now a big fan of AV for gaining levels. Now that I'm up to 75 I find myself a lot less squishy than I was at level 72.
5x Mages can take out a target pretty quick. Arcane Barrage, Fire Blast, Dead. Unless geared 80's, then it takes a little bit longer

Yeah it's definitely worth doing even if you don't win all the time. I'm glad I have my lowbies on separate accounts, I can really turn games by playing my 4x shaman with the alts on follow. They get 1.5-2 bars per game, and keep in mind that's percentage based so it will not decrease as you get higher up.

Also, since you can queue from anywhere, if you have wait times for AV you can continue to quest or grind while you're waiting.

Of course if you're Horde on reckoning, queues are always instant or 30 seconds at the most. Kinda nice

I think you would be a bit squishy for any instances at 72. I would recommend some outside grinding areas. There is a battle by Grizzly Pine Lodge on a small island that will provide unlimited mobs to slaughter.

if you search you will see I wrote a post about all the AOE sites 70-80. The only place that has changed from that list is the 77-80 in Icecrown because they nerfed it. All the other spots still work just as good as when wotlk came out.
