The safest route will be to have all of your accounts in your name.

If three of the accounts are in your name, and two are not, ideally (painfully, I know) you will want to make those two toons over again.

By purchasing a 4th and 5th accounts, and RAFing from the 4th to the 5th, you will have two toons which can level from 1st to 60th very quickly.

You can use your existing Paladin (not in your name), in instances to boost with. If the toon is half geared, you will boost very quickly.

    Something like: Deadmines -> Stockades -> Scarlet Monastery -> ZF/Sunken Temple -> BRD -> Ramparts -> Underbog.

70 to 80 will be a lot less painful with only two toons doing collections.
Regearing two toons would be a process, but in the end you have toons which are indisputably yours.
Your other toons being comparatively very geared, will help out enormously in heroics and such.

Also, with five level 80's at your disposal, dailies can help to AH Purchase ups especially for your tank.
A few titansteel pieces, along with a decent weapon, some AH Naxx/Ulduar stuff, and you'll be on your way.
I'm actually gearing a pally tank like this now, but its my first team at 80.
I went Enchanting and Skinning, but am thinking of switching to Tailoring for the 2nd profession.
Enchanting because none of the others had it, and I'd like to be able to DE instance drops.
Tailoring for the extra cloth to sell, but the cloak enchant looks to be an ok bonus too.

Bottom line, you'll not want the chance to lose all 5 accounts, for using accounts which are not yours.

I can tell you that the moment battle.net accounts came out I merged 6 accounts into one.... 5 were mine tried and true, and the 6th was a friend who quit the game and I have had it for over 3 years.

    No questions.
    No muss.
    No fuss.

LARPers, hands down. I hadn't ever met one til I was hanging out with some friends and someone broke out the foam swords and proceeded to explain the rules. It is still a source of endless amusement.

Well first off all my friend just had his account hacked then the person merged with battlenet.. Stripped his items and change the email and all of that (this was done after a 5 month wow break so it was stolen for 5 months) then he called blizzard, they gave him the account, unlinked the account with battlenet, reset what he had back to the day he last played, gave his money back, and yep... Blizzard has
control over even linked battlenet accounts.. They can see this.. But it's probably fine, the only time they look is if there is a noob GM who thinks multiboxing is illigal and then they check and get so owned... But if they check the accounts.. I dunno that could be bad.. I just made all my accounts in my name!

    Default The Blizzard Police

I don't personally know anyone who has been banned.

I know many people who know someone who friends brother knows someone who once met.... well you get the idea

I'd like to ask who does the banning - I'd be surprised if a GM can do it. Banning policy has financial implications.

I also wonder why Blizzard would ban an account - clearly if there was an issue like selling accounts, I understand, but most people have "illegal" names - especially multiboxers - are we all due for bans?

I'd be surprised if they'd ban an account for a father letting a son have a go at the game. I once knew someone who had a "Fishing Bot" - it was his 3 yr old daughter - would that be banned?

So could anyone with personal experience tell me what the process is?

No, we don't. As a matter of fact, once I started multiboxing and read the rules on this site that state using an account that is not in your name can and likely will get you banned, both my husband and I deleted our well-geared, used from day 1, multiple max-level toon accounts and started over, because the names weren't correct.

Why is this a discussion? It is a violation of the rules, plain and simple, and D-B.com has a no tolerance policy about these things :

If it is against the ToS of the game you are discussing it is against dual-boxing.com's community guidelines to discuss ways of breaking said ToS. We are COMMITTED to keeping our hobby 100% compliant with the ToS of any game we play.
You're either following the rules or you're not. This is not the place for "well, I don't like that rule, so I'll ignore it."

WoW does allow an exemption in their ToS for a dependant child. I know I have a few accounts and one has my son's name (he's 6 years old and is still level 5 - the slacker). But I'll probably link it to my B-Net account sooner of later.

But outside of the minor child issue they do not allow account sharing - not even husband and wife.

Can I ask where you found this information? - it certainly isn't in the TOS, so it's obviously a policing policy.

My original question was an attempt to establish a reliable source for these "hidden" rules, so that new people could be pointed at these rather than have to rely on opinions.

My stance is that I try to stay within the rules. The problem is that the wording of a TOS is often quite vague, and it can sometimes be difficult to make sure that my interpretation of a given statement is the same is the layer who wrote the document.

That is why I'm seeking information on policing policy. The things an organization reacts to or ignores can be a strong indicator of how the said organization feels about something, and sheds extra light on the intended purpose of a given rule.

    To clarify:

I was not saying that I didn't like any rules, or saying that I ignore them. I choose to play the game, I thereby agree to follow the rules, and to the best of my knowledge, I do.

The reason courts exist in real life is that rule breaking is rarely a simple issue. Two people will inevitably interpret a given phrase in different ways. Add to that that most people don't really read the rules anyway, and the situation becomes much more complex.

I think we all recognize that, in life, certain actions will illicit a dramatic response (e.g. if I murder someone) and some will be unlikely to illicit any (e.g. drive past a police car at 5MPH/KPH over the limit). The rules we live by are a combination of laws and police policy. I simply assert that peoples relationship to the rules of a game follow a similar pattern (after all it's how humans behave)

    Thread locked.

Discussion of anything that violates the ToS is forbidden on these boards - and by violating the ToS I am specifically referring to the merging of Battlenet accounts in an attempt to get around the fact that you are not allowed to play accounts not owned and under your own name.

Falsfire3401 & Zanthor - as a long term posters on this board, you should know better.
