WoW novels

I enjoy WoW, but to be honest I don't have a clue about any of the lore or story. I'm usually so focused on just leveling, or getting whatever task done, and I don't bother to read the quests. I feel like I'm missing out on a good chunk of the game, and I'm likely not alone.

Has anyone read the WoW novels? I don't even know what they're called, but I know they're out there. I'm guessing they're written for the 12 year old target audience, but that doesn't mean they're not interesting or could add to the WoW experience.

I've read the war of the ancients trilogy. It's quite good actually. You'll know who Rhonin the big boss man of Dalaran is after reading those novels.

I've got the two Warcraft Archive books and am currently re-reading them. They're pretty good and give you a good grounding in the lore of Warcraft. They're pretty well written and I don't think they're exclusively for a younger audience. I'm 33 and enjoyed them a lot.

I read some lore that I printed off the internet. I can't remember if it was from the main WoW website or not. I think it is, try looking on the main page and see if you can find some links to the short stories. They were pretty interesting to read and gave you a good idea of what was going on. Like who Ragnaros is, why he is in Molten Core, who are all those dragons, etc.

so far I've read... warcraft archive, arthas, night of the dragon and the first 2 books of War of the ancients... And I don't read... Like these are among the handful of books I've read in my life... I love them, and would definitely reccomend them

I have read the following novels.
Day of the Dragon
The Well of Eternity
The Demon Soul
The Sundering

I read them in that order. They all center around Rhonin and Krasus who are some of the major players in the current expansion. When I read them I also dropped the names of people in the books into the wow-wiki site to find out who they were and if they are still alive in the current time line or in game somewhere and a lot of them are. I also have the new Arthas book, but I have not read it yet. I have about 5 other books to read first.

If the next expando pack has to do with Grim Batol (deathwing) and the Emerald Dream, these books will give you a good background to that as well.

I play on Malorne and I did not know who that server was named after till I read the books.

imo read arthas first... its information is relevant to this expansion... and there's a lot of lore with it...

I am 2/3 of the way through Arthas. Its crap. All this pent up anger over a dead horse. It should be renamed to "Warcraft 3: The Dead Horse" It reads like the lady played WC3 and wrote a summary of the game.

while I will give that arthas adheres far too much to information found in WC3... it still gives a lot of insight into arthas's fall and his relationship with jaina. The horse is clearly key to his personality... Hardly anything to hold against the book.

As far as I have been able to tell... there isn't any lore that doesn't match up in the novels. The authors have been pretty good about not screwing stuff up like that. Especially considering only two authors wrote the bulk of the books - Richard Knaak and Christie Golden.

Isn't there a lot of lollore in the novels? I read somewhere that the overall storyline is a bit skewed and not consistent because of "author interpretation"

No, its skewed and non-consistant because the lore itself is skewed and non-consistant. And Metzen being forgetful.
