Default Upgrade from dual core to quad?

I just started a second WoW account today and want to dual box. I have read and have used keyclone with the 2 accounts and it works great. Though I am getting kinda low fps, about 25 in Elywyn Forest, my settings are all turned down. I am currently running Vista Ultimate 32bit on an AMD dual core 4850 at 2750 mhz, 3 gb ram and a 9800GT. Running 1 WoW i get great fps and no lag except in Dal, but when I run 2 the fps drops greatly. I have checked ram usage and its low, like 1.5gb used but my cpu usage is at 95% with the 2 running. Should I buy a new CPU? I was thinking about the AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition 64bit Quad Core. Would this help at all? Thanks in advance.

I havent used the same processor as yours but I did have a AMD 2.83ghz processor and I managed to overclock it to about 3ghz comfortably. I think the problem would be solved if you put all your video settings down though apart from the ones you need most (on the main). I used to 5 box on my Amd system before getting a quad. Even with the quad core though I still have all my clones set to a max of 15fps and I have every video setting on minimum.

I have a AMD Phenom II 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Quadcore and I run 10 accounts with it. I'm pretty sure you should be able to run at least 2 with that 2.6GHz cpu you mentioned. I'm guessing it would be able to handle 5 with lower video settings.

Thanks for the replies, today it seemed to be alright but the cpu is still running between 95-100%. What could I do to lower this? My graphics in game are set to minimum and my 2 windows are run at 800x600 resolution.

Definitely something hokey going on there. Lots of addons, maybe? Bad ones like QuestHelper or other memory hogs? Some other process sucking up CPU?

For a frame of reference, my 2nd box runs 4 WoWs at 800x600 each, graphics details all off except middle of the slider on distance, and the active WoW sits at 60fps all the time (except Dalaran/Zangarmarsh). This is an Intel Core2Duo 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM and an 8600GT/256MB.

    Try doing a:

    console set MAXFPSBK 15

and see if that speeds up the main window. Still, with only two and a 9800GT + dual core, you should definitely not be getting sucktastic FPS like that.
    Now playing: WoW (Garona)
