    Default Problems switching targets

    Hi,

I am using InnerSpace and Jamba. Most of the time when I try to switch targets in combat my toons keep targeting the old target. Mob A will die and I will hit the tab key, right and/or left click a new mob, and still my target will switch right back to the old mob which often times is a corpse. I have just about given up on switching targets rapidly in combat. This is a major pain because I am currently running 4x Warlocks and it would certainly make things a LOT more efficient if I could drop my dots and move to the next target. However, I am constantly running in to the problem with the targets automatically switching back to the old target. Worse sometimes one of my toons will get confused and start pulling other mobs into the fray. I use /assist focus. IS and Jamba seem to play really nice together. Just this one really irritating problem with target switching. So I am wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and what they did to solve them. Or if anyone has any ideas which might help me sort this problem out. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bad,

This is a usual problem which is caused by the latency between your PC and the server. Since you use a focus setup (I assume your main is even using focus based targetting) it means that you are swapping targets and attacking before your change of target has registered on the server, and then updated on your clients again (even your main).

While you use focus, this will be a problem on your main. It will also be a problem for your slaves regardless whether you use focus or assist to do your targetting. Every multiboxer has this issue (that I am aware of) but the time frame involved varies with your latency. Most of us just get used to the lag time, and never try to switch targets rapidly.

I guess switching to and initial assist macro, and then using tab targetting for all of your toons might avoid the issue somewhat, but they won't always pick up the same toon once they have tabbed.

hmmm that makes sense. I am playing from the middle east so there is significant lag. I guess it just didn't become noticable until I started using 4 and 5 toons at the same time. I might just have to scale back and right off anything higher than 2 boxing until I get transferred back to a country with better ping times. I am currently in the UAE and unfortunately ALL traffic is directed through proxy servers. They want to make sure we aren't looking at porn or anti-muslim sites. Yeeeeha!

I suppose I could try hunters. They are less sensitive to lag. I really wanted to level some 'locks and get some melt your face off dot pwnage going.

It's something you have to adapt to. I have <100ms latency on average on my toons - I'm in Phoenix and chose a server located in Los Angeles to minimize lag, but I still get this issue frequently, especially in PVP where target switching may happen in less than a second. It's not a huge issue there if one toon throws a lightning bolt at the wrong target in PVP (unless I was trying to instagib someone) but it can definitely be a problem in PVE.

I have wiped my group countless times in heroics when my alts do not acquire the new target and randomly choose and pull another one. However, I think there is something you can put in your macro to prevent this ("exists, harm" maybe?), but I've been too lazy to research it.

Also, you may want to look at tunneling WoW through SSH. When I was in Houston for a few months, there was a strange issue with SBC routing all over the country to get to the datacenter in LA - resulting in like 5000ms lag and disconnects every few minutes. I used a cheap VPS located in Los Angeles right next to the server and tunneled all the traffic through there, and boom, <200ms latency, no disconnects. I hear a lot of European players who use the US server use this method to reduce lag, as well as college students who have issues with WoW ports being blocked.

    This is what I used:

To my knowledge, it is legal with Blizzard, according to my research and reading over the eula. If I'm incorrect: mods, feel free to inform me and delete this post
