Default Raid targeting 10 box questions

I am trying to settle on a targeting method for 10 boxing. I have 2 teams, one at 80 one at 62, that I am going to use for all sorts of fun stuff. I target in my 5 mans now using some stuff Vyndree posted like this: /cast [target=focustarget][target=party1target]. That way if you have a focus it uses his target if not it uses party1 target.

I was thinking /cast [target=raid1target][target=party1target] would do the same :/ but it isn't working like I had hoped. I tried this out in MC a few weeks back. Some toons had odd targets and some just stood there. Some toons in group 2, that is. My main group kept churning as they normally would, since my main was in their group.

Is there some mystery that I haven't uncovered related to targeting in a raid. I don't want to use [target=focustarget]. I am trying to wean myself from focus targeting.

Any 10 man tips would be great, thanks.

Here's an example of the type of DPS macros I use:

    Main Click DPS Macro:
    /click BT4Button97
    /click BT4Button98
    /click BT4Button99
    /use 13
    /use 14
    /cast Elemental Mastery

    Click 1 (button 97)
    #showtooltip Flame Shock
    /castsequence [target=target,harm,nodead][target=raid1target,harm,nodead][target=party1target,harm,nodead] reset=combat Flame Shock,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,

    Click 2 (button 98)
    #showtooltip Lava Burst
    /castsequence [target=target,harm,nodead][target=raid1target,harm,nodead][target=party1target,harm,nodead] reset=combat Lava Burst,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Click 3 (button 99)
    #showtooltip
/castrandom [target=target,harm,nodead][target=raid1target,harm,nodead][target=party1target,harm,nodead] Lightning Bolt, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Purge

    Hope that helps

BTW, with this set up I can use the macro to DPS solo, in a raid, or in a party doing heroics or quests. Works out very nicely, though I do have to make sure my guys aren't targeting something individually in a raid or heroic b/c that will mean it doesn't matter what the party/raid leader targets.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing that, I'm going to play around with something like that. I went away from a single button castsequence macro because it seemed to greatly reduce my dps but this might just fix the issue.

Well, yeah. i was little affraid to share as this could be against the rules... but as i'm using innerspace clickboxer, it allows me to assign two different keyboard actions at once: first i send target unit ctrl+shift+[1-p] (=raid target 1-20) and heal/dispell spell after. First click targets the unit and second casts the heal/dispell.

Since i'm a button smasher it's not a problem for me. I keep on clicking on button 'till it casts it.

oh yeah and if you are wondering i'm using pitbull/grid with alphabetical sorting and macaroon with /target macros for each unit. No easy way to get around this... :P
