I decided on 2 10k hard drives in a RAID0 array because if I scrap WoW and gaming altogether I still have two nice hard drives. The range of uses for and SSD drive are more limited.

    500GB SATA-300 drives = $50-75 depending on the quality (i.e.: MTBF ratings)
250GB SSD drives = $700-1000 depending on interface speeds. Have to come down to 16GB SSDs before you get to the $50-75 mark.

Personally, I'd grab 4 good SATA-300 10k+ RPM drives before I went with SSD. Unless you're doing niche work that takes advantage of the SSD's performance curves or just have money to burn, high-speed SATA stuff is more betterest. I suppose you could make the case for thermal issues with 4 high-speed drives but if you're even building a RAID box, you ought to already be aware of all that stuff.

I'm in a bit of a particular case since my machine is a Mac : I use windows ONLY for gaming. I also didn't want to mess with my Mac drives at all, so Windows had to be on its own physical drive.

So for Vista/WoW, I got an OCZ Vertex 60GB, I paid 250 euros for it, and I think it was worth every cent (read : "Dalaran is lag-free").

Same for me. 2 10K RAID0 drives. I think I will give SSD about a year to get its act together. It might turn into a PCIe card, maybe a long lasting (doesn't wear out) drive. Not sure. Just doesn't seem like it the best it can be right now.

What kind of input are you looking for? Suggestions on which would be best? Or do you have the drives available and want ideas on how to best use them?

There's this promotional/advertising video for SSDs. It definitely gave me the nudge toward looking into them as the first upgrade (from 7200rpm sata).

Not all SSD are equal. You can find some that are priced nicely, but they are going to perform like sand in your crotch. Quality SSD are very expensive compared to spindle drives. Do your homework before buying.
