I am in Muskegon. Michigan.

any restrictions? i figure you don't have a car, so that limits the location a bit. for now, i'll assume muskegon area. are your grades good? also helps if you walk into a place 'looking smart' (as my Dad use to say). haircut, clean clothes, 'bright' attitude. keep in mind... sometimes, they may not have an opening... BUT, they may want to 'upgrade' a position they currently have filled. you might be better then the drunk guy holding down the desk in the corner, barely getting the job done. he'd be out and you'd be in. it does help to physically go into these places and talk with people.

fyi, with car dealerships, you would walk into the service department and ask to speak with the service manager.

the key to auto shops, which i grew up with, is working hard at ALL times.
(we had a 20ft sign in the main shop that reads: "Professionals Take Pride in Their Work" ... it's still there today, over 30 years later)

here is a quick list of some of my notes from potential leads. made about 20 calls, and it seems the area is busiest during the summer. getting a job now, and keeping it through the school year, is the best move. it would also provide a job for next summer.

patrick in service - xfer to used cars & detailing - joe bradley ... doesn't need anyone.. BUT.. he hasn't had much turn over in his staff. his people have been there for years. this would be an excellent place to get into. stop on over, ask to fill out an application, be eager, and he might pull you on. check back within a few weeks to see if anything opened up (and i mean, stop over). this type of person would put you to work IF they saw you weren't lazy and were persistent 8)
