Default extreamly slow window swapping with Vista 64 bit

    I have 9800gx2, vista 64 8gig, 3mhz quad core Intel CPU.

Window swapping is extreamly slow. Even with one WoW running, and IE...when I switch between them, there is 30-45 second delay. This was not the case in XP....any ideas?
    Thanks!

I'm assuming that you are talking about Keyclone's PIP swaping? I thought mine was slow, 2-4 secs, but Ouch that is bad.

I don't think it is Vista related. I run Vista 64, only ran into problems when I tried to push too much from the processors. Once I got that fixed, I haven't had any trouble

    I'd check your anti-alias settings.

For fastest pip though, Innerspace is hands down the winner.

I suppose in theory it could be hard drive access times. If you are alt-tabbing between the window you are running in full screen. When an application losses the focus with DirectX it generally has to consider all of the graphics memory to be 'Gone' so it would have to pretty much dump everything and reload it when the window was active again... This would presume to mean a bit of Hard Drive time depending on the situations.

Another thing to consider are the mods for wow. I too had around 30-60 second load times for WoW just for hopping into Stocks or the like. This was due to me running alot of database/collecting mods that simply are not needed on all of the accounts in a multibox setup. This is things like Gatherer, Auctioneer, Enchantrix, LootLink, even Quest Helper (But you want this one no matter what, just set the slaves Performance (Perf) levels to 25% or lower on the alt account(s)). A quick way to see if its the addons is to simply unload them all and log into the game, see if your load speeds and alt-tab speeds are affected

    Couple of suggestions

    1. Turn off aero
    2. Check your task master to see what is hogging the resources things like X-Fi CMSS-3D dont play nice in vista so you may need to disable them
    3. make sure your multisampling is set to x1

With your system specs, window swapping shouldn't be that slow. Something must be wrong somewhere

Prior to my recent hardware upgrade, I had a very similar spec PC to you, but with a slower Core2Quad (2.66GHz) and lower spec graphics card (8800GTX). Octopus did Window swaps in a fraction of a second. I'm running Windows 7 now, but it was just as snappy back when I was running Vista 64.

using the pip hot key when I was running Vista 64 with Keyclone I was experiencing really slower then I should (or so i thought for my system); then I upgrraded to Windows 7 and it runs a lot smoother.

If your still having issues then do try the following(stuff I had to do to even get WoW to run decent on my laptop with vista period)

Right click shortcut or wow.exe -> properties

Compatibilty tab-> run as Windows XP

disable vista theme and run as administrator

    hope this helps

I went from 5 copied versions of WoW two 5 Symlink'd versions of WoW.. It is as advertised and pretty much the same speed as just running a single account... Though again I am not sure how much of a help in swapping this is, I want to say my speeds are still a bit faster but they were already 1-3 seconds depending on which one I was swapping too.
