    Default How do you make gold while leveling?

    Hi,

    Question ... how do u make gold (for mounts, skills, gear, etc) while leveling?

    My first team is in the low 60s ... and I don't have a lvl 80 on this server to run dailies with, so was wondering what people do. I'm thinking about heading back to Plaguelands for some runs through Strath/Scholo and just vendor the loot? I know I should disenchant it to max out the profit, but that auction house on this server (Saurfang) seems rather slow still on the Horde side (+ don't have high enough enchanting skill yet).

    Thoughts?

    if you are on RAF you can't keep up. It's not possible.

    If you are leveling normally - loot everything, leave nothing behind, sell it all.
    Take gathering skills - mine/herb. The stuff you get sells amazingly well. A buddy of mine in his 30's sold a half stack of silver for 100G.

    Didn't you just finish Ramps? Outland greens will DE/ Vendor for better results, I'd definitely farm there rather than Scholo/Strat.

    Aside from instance farming, pick up trade skills, Mining, Skinning, Herbing. grab EVERYTHING and sell it. Also, invest in bags, if you're ~60 and you're not using 4x 16 slot bags on each toon, you're going to be doing vendor runs, VERY often. Also, loot EVERYTHING, it all sells for something, and you're starting to get into the area where grey weapons vendor ~1g+ and grey gear vendors for about the same. Find an item price addon that shows you how much an item vendors for, I think I use itemvalue. This allows you to pick the highest value quest reward if your toons don't need what is offered and they can vendor it for cash. Mining, Skinning, and Herbing will slow you down, but it's worth it for the cash in the long run. Even if you have to go catch them up to outland levels, go do it. Also, go do as many of the Midsummer Fire quests/extinguishing as you possibly can, each one is pure cash / xp.

    Make you main a skinner. That gives them the + crit and you can skin what you kill. Sell the leather.

    My dual-box team isn't RAF, but they also have zero tradeskills. I've been vendoring anything and everything that I know won't auction well, everything else I auction. Even greens. Depending on the level determines the price of the green. Even a L15 green I'll put up for 2g buyout and they almost always sell first time round. I just list cheap to guarantee the sale. I don't do crap like list level 40 plate gear for 50g just to try and gouge the fresh L40 warriors and paladins...I list for a reasonable 5-6g and they sell like hotcakes.

    Level 53 now and my paladin (team leader) has 1000g, and I've spent about 300g on buying enchants and gear as I level too.

    Plus, I did the robot chicken escort quests and listed both chicken pets on the AH. They go for 1-2k a piece on my realm but will probably take several cycles to sell, so that's another 2-4k in my pocket before I'm even level 60

    Trick's money-making rules

    1) I make my main Mine/Skin because Skinning doesn't need tracking and regardless of your classes you can probably use what you can't/don't sell for your own crafted gear. Also, only smelt what you have to for help with skill points, as the ore generally sells better. And the Stam and Crit bonuses for your main never hurt.

    2) Netherweave bags are relatively cheap if you have at least one toon in Outlands or higher who can collect the mats. Outfit at least some, if not all, of your toons with a few of these because...

    3) LOOT EVERYTHING. Jamba auto-sell of gray-quality items is your friend.

    4) Auction greens that actually generate cash (most weapons, rogue/druid/hunter/shaman physical combat gear, some caster gear, some war/pally gear).

    5) Vendor greens that you can't justify auctioning (weapons with odd stats, etc)

    6) Auction blues

    7) Auction or trade spam epics

    8) Use Auctioneer or similar to show you which quest rewards vendor for the most money and vendor it if you can't/won't use another reward. I can't stress this one enough, especially in Outlands and Northrend. Most times the sale of the item will net you more than the quest cash. (Note that in 3.2.0 you may not need a mod to see the vendor price of quest rewards)



    I generally seed my tri-box teams with 100g each character to help with the lower levels. My shaman team was the first to make it to 80, and though I don't have epic flight I was able to generate enough cash to pay my own way for everything else. Mounts at 30 and 60, flight at 70 (even though I couldn't use it in Northrend), Cold Weather Flight at 77, dual spec at 80.



    My toons have roughly 2.5k, 1.5k, and 1.5k respectively after all that and I've run maybe 5 - 10 quests since I hit 80.

    I have made 5 characters on a realm where i didn't had any toons.

    On level 20 i gave up because i had zero money.

    My friend made a character afterwards on my server. He is a casual player so he loves to mine and herb stuff, and i believe he got 400g out of ores and herb 1-100.

    (I dont like to do that crap so i rather delete my characters and go back to play my main)

    But thats the best option.

    If you want the most money of quest rewards download Auctioneer and enable it on your main. You can see howmuch gold every quest reward give when you sell it to the vendor.

    Without too much work it's not difficult keeping up with enough for training. I rolled an alliance toon on another server for kicks (I usually play horde) and I had about 8g by the time I was level 12 just by doing these things:
    • Make sure to loot everything.
    • Vendor grays.
    • If you can't use any of your quest rewards, select the one that will vendor for the most amount (usually plate and weapons). There are addons that will tell you the exact amount in your tooltip.
    • Auction off greens (or DE them and AH the mats). Greens will go for at least 2-3g and higher, depending on the level and also what they would DE into. Charge more for leather with agility and AP, cloth with int, spellpower and stam, mail with str, agi, plate with str and dodge, etc. Auction off greens even with worthless stats, because there are people out there who make money by DEing them and reselling the mats for more!
    • AH any whites you come across as well.
    • Pick up skinning, AH them.
    • Get Herbalism. AH the herbs. Do not sell the herbs too cheaply - inscriptionists will pay a good amount to make their glyphs.
    • Buy your faction's pets and resell them on the neutral AH. You can often buy a non-combat pet for 50silver and resell it on the neutral AH for loads more. Same goes for recipes.
    • Don't buy stuff you don't really need.
    For the OP - I'd suggest picking up two gathering skills and going back to the old world to catch up. I'd personally go with skinning and herbalism because they don't share nodes on the map. Herbing is really easy, especially in the newer areas (like the bloodelf and draeni zones). Skinning should be easy as well since there should be other people doing their quests and leaving dead mobs behind. If needed you could always one-shot your own. If you're really nice you can offer to group up with some lowbies to help them if they let you skin everything. Then just AH everything.

    Get auctioneer!

    Reiterating what others are saying in this thread.

    Loot everything, and sell the vendor crap to vendors.
    Anything white quality is usually for trade skills and will AH well.
    Green stuff will generally DE for more valuable components on the AH then the green itself.

    Have an AH alt, which you mail stuff to; this toon does not leave the auction house/mail area.
    Trade stuff to whichever toon is on the same account, so the mail to the mule is instant.

    Between your active toons, include Enchanting, Herbalism, Mining and Skinning skills.
    I like a slave to be the skinner, because you can macro this, while you cannot macro Herbs/Mining.
    All of your toons could be enchanters if you want, you're looking at the DE feature mainly.
    I'd personally just have one enchanter as it costs some to level one.

    Insert your level of skinning into the brackets each time you improve to a new and better skinning skill.

    Your main/most active toon should be either Herbalism or Mining because its easier to click from the main window.
    If you have a secondary toon/slave with a minimap large enough to view, they can have the other skill.
    This way you track both skills at once, but don't miss either.
    If the maximizer region makes their mini map too small, you can easily have Herbs/Mining on the active toon.
    Just macro... /castsequence Find Herbs, Find Minerals. Can quickly toggle between them.

    Gathering skills make you the gold, everyone uses them, most are too lazy to get them themselves.

    If you're on RAF, only buy the essential skills while leveling.
    For shammies this would probably be Lesser Healing Wave, Lightning Bolt, and basic totems.
    Since mana totems won't stack with each other, one shammy would have the highest rank the others probably rank 1.
    Once your maximum level, you can train other things over time.

    If you aren't on RAF just questing will pay for everything you need. There is no need to go the auction hall until 80, none. Skinning is worth leveling as you level, the other professions are just as easy or easier to do once you hit 80.
