Default What do you guys do about the attention.

I started triple boxing 3 mages about a month ago. So far it's been awesome, but the attention it brings leaves me uneasy.

How do you guys deal with it? Every time I see someone, I feel like a have to defend myself from all the accusations I get about botting, cheating, etc. I know I am in the clear when it comes to warden and 3rd party app's etc, but I am pretty positive I get reported on a nightly basis.

Any advice? Do I ignore these people? If I don't stop and explain I always think I'll get reported for using a bot.

I will usually reply in a polite and clear manner, intending to contrast the behavior of someone doing something forbidden or a the behavior of a bot as highly as possible. That means answering to begin with, not running off, not pretending you didnt see someone saying what they said and of course most importantly telling them what I am actually doing, which is usually not what people think I am doing.

As far as Blizzard is concerend, multiboxing is ok. That is my message.

If I have no time I point the people at my blog, alternatively pointing them at this site may help. If someone is boneheaded, I invite them go and report me if it makes them feel better but also inform them that they are wasting the GM's time for no reason. Usually this will make people stop cold since it shows clearly that I do not mind GM attention.

I hope some of this helps =]

Been reported hundreds of times. I used to explain how I did it, then that got boring repeating myself all the time. Some people just don't comprehend how it's possible. Now, I just send them here.

I have dnd messages on at all times: Some quotes of famous people on my slave machines and the text "Already reported" on my main machine. If someone sends me a "lol" or some smart ass comment i simply do not reply but if someone messages me and tries to start a friendly conversation i am willing to explain how i do what i do.
Basically you have to live with the attention. As soon as you become a regular in the outlands most people know you exist and you can do little about what they think about what you do. Just don't worry too much about those who don't like what you do - you will never convince them.

I usually go out of the way to help anyone I see in the area I'm grinding. This includes buffing and keeping an eye on them to see if they get in trouble. Liberal heals and even inviting them to the group if I'm not 5boxing seems to help too. I also try not to destroy all the mobs in an area, as there is nothing worse them trying to fight for quest mobs with a boxer.

I'm not sure if this has kept me from getting reported, but in the 2 years or so I've never had a GM approach me.

Pretty much the same as already said. I do try to be polite to people. I don't overfarm an area if a lot of others are around. I three box only, so if a person is nice enough I'll let them join up to get a quest done that I'm also doing.

I tell them I'm multi-boxing and point them to this site.

Sometimes players will just follow me around for a while and never say anything. Just curious I guess or trying to figure out if I'm botting. I'm sure I've been reported but never approached by a GM in the 1 year 3 months that I've done this.

Had one fellow this weekend follow my priest and two warlocks around, asked what I was doing. I told him "multiboxing" and referenced this site. He followed for a while then made a snide comment about my two 31 level warlocks having the same exact gear and that I must have too much time on my hands. The comments made no sense. I just said "thanks" and went on my way. He left.

I haven't had many threaten to report me. I did once when I had 3 undead mages named Orange, Apple and Cherry. Guess they didn't find that humorous.

Yup - attention is bad (in the annoying sense). Especially when I'm farming and some douche bag gets pissed coz he can't get a single fire elemental in Skald. But When I was leveling, these annoying comments get balanced out when someone says

"OMG - You're the coolest thing I've ever seen!!"
