Thread: One PC, 5 WoW

  1. #1

    Default One PC, 5 WoW

I have actually 1 PC and a Laptop.

    PC: Intel E8400, 4Go RAM, Geforce 8800 GTS 312Mo
    Laptor: Intel T2400 1,83Ghz, 2Go RAM, Geforce Go 7600

My Laptop is good for Two WoW, but my PC not support 3 WoW at same time. The processor is always at 90-95% of using. So I think is not very good for him to work at this % of utilisation for several hours even I have no slow down when I play.

I think about one PC with a Intel Q9400, 4Go RAM and 2x Geforce 9800 GT 1Go. I have Windows XP 32Bits on the PC.

Do you think it's a good way to run 5 WoW? 1 PC per WoW is very attractive, with 5 screens and KVM Vetra... But it's very expensive... 3.000$, my god, I don't have the cash right now. And I don't want to burn my processor...

    Thanks in advance!

If you wanted to do hardware boxing you can build 4 additional boxes for way cheaper than 3k since WoW's requirements really aren't that much. Unless you are looking to play maximum details on each box then you'd be spending that kind of money.

However with quads cores getting cheaper and cheaper you could spend the same amount building 1 box to handle them all. Just make sure you have a 64bit OS and at least 6gb or ram. The more Ram the better.

You can build a quad core to run 5 clients nicely cheaper than building 5 machines now a days.

    4 PC = 623$ each (Screen 20" each include)

    KVM Multiplexer: 339$
    VIP-848-BC 8 port PS/2 Keyboard Multiplier / Multicaster

    KVM Switch: 149$
    VIP-802-KMV 2 port KVM Switch

    623 *4 = 2492 + 339 + 149 = 2940$

    A Quad Core, 2 Graphic cards, 4 screens and hotkeynet = 1575$

Even if I don't buy KVMs and use hotkeynet, the 1 PC solution will cost less.

I see many boxers in this page who used one PC for 5 WoW. But I don't find a topic where they say it's efficient and without problems.

If your motherboard can handle a Q9550 and give it a mild overclock, you could reach 3.2ghz(and beyond) X 4 for a mere $230. That should definitely fix your apparent processing bind. As far as utilization/time/reliability; the two things that will significantly impact the life of your processor are excess heat and excess voltage. If those two things are under control, I don't worry about it.

Beyond this, you will want more ram (and an x64 OS) when you go to 5box. Seeing how Windows 7 is free and DDR2 is almost free, I would do this before making a switch to hardware boxing.

    Ma low Rig

I'm running 5 WoW accounts using Dell Vostro Laptop 2.0GHZ Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, GE Force 8600 M and Windows XP. 32"HDTV Olevia for the 4 accounts and laptop screen for my tank

This helped my system increase performance and be able to run 5 WoW Accounts but not highly recommended
Want to increase you're in-game FPS?

I am planning to invest a desktop machine either Q9550 or Phenon because I think 10man is more rewarding than leveling 50 alts to level 80

I have a P5N32-E SLI PLUS motherboard. She support Quad Core and SLI 2x16 (I'm not sure about wich graphic card is supported on SLI Mode...).

I think about upgrade to Intel s775 Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83Ghz, I already have 4Go RAM and only use at 40-45% with 3 WOW at same time... So I think it's not needed to upgrade to 6 or 8Go RAM. My Win XP only use 3Go of the 4Go and it seems ok. But if it's not enough, I buy 2 or 4 others Go and install Windows 7 (Free at the moment).

For the graphic card, I think about Geforce 9800 GT 1Go x2 or GeForceGTX 260 896Mb x2. First is cheapest but I don't know wich is the best...

WoW does not use SLI, in most cases. Better to get one good card, like a 260 or 4850.
RAF Tour Guide files are obsolete, I went to Zygor
    MultiBoxers play with themselves

And it's not possible to assign 2 WoW on Card #1 and 3 WoW on Card #2 ?

And it's better Windows XP 64 Bits and DirectX 9 or Windows Vista/7 64 bits and DirectX 10 ?
