Triple boxing using wireless keyboards.

First of all I think these forums are great. I'm glad I'm not the only one out there nutty enough to do stuff like this. :lol:

I see tons of posts about Hardware broadcasting and Software broadcasting. I tend to agree with Xzin when it comes to using hardware. I really don't feel comfortable using a software based broadcast solution. It's in the "grey area" when it comes to using "3rd party apps" per the TOS. The attention I get already from triple boxing is uncomfortable enough.

Anyways, about a month ago, I decided I would try my hand at getting a triple box setup going. Instead of going the tried and true PS2 broadcasting route using a vectra, I wanted to see how well a wireless keyboard setup would do.

I already had 3 computers, with identical LCD's all around the same specs give or take a few hardware generation gaps.

Then I purchased a "mini" usb keyboard for each machine and a usb mouse for each.

My setup is simple.

Each machine gets a mini keyboard and a mouse (both usb) , and a usb RF receiver for the receiving the signal from the main keyboard. The main machine gets 1 of the wireless keyboards. The remaining 2 wireless keyboards and 3 wireless mice stay in the box.

So far it's working flawlessly. All 3 RF receivers are in perfect sync. No lag issues, no software compatibility issues. It's working great.

I just wanted to bring this up for people who wanted to try to dual or triple box but want to try the cheaper wireless route instead.

Can't use mini Happy Hacking keyboards (unless you make some wireless) but yes, that is a perfectly viable setup but can't be KVM'd unless you use some hardwired setup - even if its just cheap $5 USB to PS/2 and cheap keyboards, still need a KVM). Just be sure to keep the receivers close to the transmitters, with a clear LOS if possible. If it gets the "run' signal but never gets then "run stopped" one - you keep running (off the cliff, into lava, in separate directions, etc).

For the above reasons, I don't think it is the best way but it sure is cheap and DOES work.
