Got and assembled my new dual vertical monitor mounts. Only took 3 beers to assemble. Center is a 30in and the 4 others are 17in.

looking good.
Sorry for asking rather than searching for answer. But, I have a 24 inch for my main and love it (coming from a 19" before I boxed). How do you like your 30"? I know, probably stupid question, but is there any downsides (weight, heat, etc)? What do you use to drive it (video card)? What resolution do you use it at? Do you have to do anything special to drive it at that resolution? I heard stories that you have to have something special to make it work or something, maybe that is only for super high resolutions. And what drives your other screens (computer/video) (don't need specifics on this, just is it one computer with multiple outputs or seperate computers or what)?
And it does look really nice and pretty.
I run a pair of 22"'s and a 28" and honestly it's on the border of too much. I don't have the 22's mounted sideways which would help, but it's a LOT of monitor, if you can't get them away from you you are going to spend too much time looking side to side.Originally Posted by 'ElectronDF',index.php?page=Thread&postID=207598#p ost207598
Heat is a moderate issue as we enter summer, I'm planning on grabbing a fan I can hang from my ceiling and blow the heat out to the rest of the house, help keep cool air flowing my way!

My 30in is an old one from the Dell refurb site I picked up like 5 years ago cheap with a few stacking internet coupons and my employee discount. Its not like the new insane rez 30+in monitors of today that require a video card that can do dual-link DVI. Its rez is not that impressive. Like 1280x768 or something. Basicaly a 720p/1080i HD rez or there about. The advertising at the time for it was huge as HD was just starting to come out.
Specs are here:

When I first got it, it seemed SOOOOooooo huge I almost sent it back. I used it as my main tv for a long while till I set up a 1080p HD projector. It did take some getting used to. I joked it was like watching tennis because I had to move my head back and fourth to see one side of the screen to the other. I got used to it though after a month or so. Adding the 4 17in to each side has brought back that same "its too big" feel. Im sure ill get used it as well.
Heating for me isn't an issue. There are no windows in my man cave but the wall has a cut out where I placed a small window AC unit. It vents into the ac heat into the laundry room that's got cement walls so it doesn't make that room hot. It keeps my cave a nice 74 degrees. W/O the ac it can get very hot in that small room.
I have a monster Dell XPS 720 that runs the center display. And I have 2 Dell XPS 400's that run the slaves, so 3 boxes total for WoW. I use Keyclone and InputDirector to controll it all with one KB/Mouse.
Its an unfinshed basement down there so the ceiling is just floor joices. The next project slated for later this summer after the DefCon confrence is to buy about 10 strings of LED christmass lights, Hot glue them into peg board and attach that to the celing for lighting. Right now its just a single bulb. You can see in the pic the lighting sucks. Im also thinking about running a dedicated 220 volt line for that room. All the hardware in there is getting close to the limit of the one 15amp breaker that feeds that room. All the PC's have PFC powersupplies so they can run on 220 or 115.
Awesome, thank you for the info. /bow
Sweet. And you were done by beer-o'clock.
