    Default Opinions please

Do you think my 80 hunter can **speedily** RAF boost some lowbies thru SM Cath? I know I can easily get the slaves to 20 just by dragging them around the world insta-killing mobs that are +2 to +5 to them, but then I'm wondering how efficiently and quickly an 80 hunter can clear SM Cath for 'em. I don't want any 30-40 minute runs if I can help it, obviously I can't do a one-pull like a prot pally, all those mobs beating on me (or even my L75 crab-tank pet) would quickly overwhelm my mail-wearing toon with no real defensive stats other than some dodge from AotDH and agility.

I figure on pulling 4-5 packs then AOEing them down with volley (my 2nd spec MM has the non-interruptable volley talent). I guess I could just do a dry run on the hunter and see how fast I can do a Cath run...just wanted an opinion from these forums.

I've already done a dry-run of Scholo (for 45-60), and found that although I can't do it in 15 mins like some can (baron run), I can do a baron run in about 25 mins. Only part that became dangerous was the abominations, I had six on me once and actually had to feign death to get them off me and onto my pet so I could bandage back up. My "tank" pet I haven't leveled yet, he's only a L75 crab so there's no way he can hold aggro off my epic-geared hunter, even if all I'm doing is volley.

This would speed me onto having the sixties ready to go sooner, I'd still come back and focus on dual-boxing the pally/priest from 40-80 though, but I'm itching to do the boosting, especially since my buddy who I told about the RAF thing is now half way through boosting his second set of toons (he already has an 80 epic mage and 80 blue-geared prot pally, whereas the only 80 I have on this realm is my hunter)

I dont perceive hunter as a strong AOE class but I dont know a lot about them so im not sure. A druid or pally would be optimal, imo, due to self healing (iLOTP is ridiculous for low level farming)...

Bottom line, give it a shot. A lot of the timing will come down to how aggressive you are, your gear level, your personal skill, etc.

I think i did full cath in like 6 minutes on my druid.

Agreed. Hunter is not optimal, but certainly doable. Ideal RAF grinding is rounding up tons of mobs at once and blasting them all together. A hunter can do it to some degree by having the pet lead the charge, attacking a mob or two per group and then charging off to the next group, then use volley when a bunch are together. In higher instances, that will pull a lot on the hunter before they start dying so you'd likely have to slow down and start using more direct attacks to kill them one at a time, or risk having to mostly fight in melee. I suppose with frost trap, you could still AoE grind rather well, but it's still going to be a little slower than some other classes.

I'd say it's worth it, unless you have a better way. Perhaps you can have your friend help out one evening with the mage to make that last push from about 50-60. Tip him some gold for it. :P

    Default Hunters are Great!

I've got a lot of experience of boosting thru SM Cath with my LVL 80 Hunter, and i have to say its one of the easiest class i've ever boosted with. My Plan is too basically; Buff myself with Aspect of the Dragonhawk, eye of the beast with my pet and run and pull the first courtyard back to me, i then drop an explosion trap, i then volley them down. Then repeat with the second courtyard. Next open the doors to the Keep part, then instead of eye of the beasting, i attack just Mograine and he shouts something like "Infidels get them" and the whole of the keep pulls onto my pet. then i switch the pet onto passive and click the pet follow button, drop another Explosion trap and volley them down takes me about 15mins a run!
    Easy
    Thanks

Thanks Holmes! Gonna try your strat on a dry run tonight, if it goes well I'll be setting up my RAF and starting to boost some toons! Just wondering which pet I should use...I have a L80 cat, a L78 wolf, and a L75 crab.

My guild loves the crab. Our MT is a tauren warrior named Badshah (and he has alts of every class save hunter @70+, several with 'shah' in the name), and when I decided to pick up a tank pet I naturally named him Crabshah.
