Default Leveling 60->80, boosting or questing ?

I'm back in the multiboxing saddle again so to speak, and leveling up some new group(s).

Has anyone recently boosted through levels 60-70 and have an estimate on how long it took ? Or 70-80 ?

I am almost done boosting 4 toons through classic, just a couple hours left -- they are sitting at mid 50's right now. In the past I've quested up through Outlands, but I wonder with a L80 if it's not faster to boost via instances. Especially since there's no need to gear up in Outlands to get ready for running L70 heroics.
Last time I did a single toon I did questing, 60-70 was around 1-1.5 days played and 70-80 around 3, so around 4-5 total depending on how focused I can stay. That was on a PVP server but this will be on PvE so it should be faster. On the other hand I'm running 4 characters at once which will take longer. But I'd obviously like to make it as fast as possible.

    Thoughts ?

You should get another account, move your 80 to it, than power level the other 4 in dungeons.

... Yes, this is boosting and it's how I'm leveling to 60. I'm wondering if it's faster to continue boosting in Outlands instances with an L80 + 4 alts, or switch to questing.

No clue. My lock was my original main and was level 70. I used him to instance boost and quest boost the rest of the team to the mid 60's. From there I had him join the party and start gaining exp. Traditional group leveling from there.

I too am curious about the optimal route for a group of 4 60's with a fifth account level 80 to help.

questing, just skip all the gather quests. theres more than enough kill quests to get 60-68 in outlands. then just quest some more in northrend

It depends, if your working alot of alts then you probably have some rest. Use dungeons to quickly burn that rest off then quest. This gets you out of O-Lands fast. 70-80 personally I do dailys as soon as they open and quest's once I reach the areas level requirements. IMHO daily's make Northrend much easier. Dont burn out!

I'm waiting till the next patch comes out to level my next teams from 60-80. I'd save about 5K gold on mount costs and they can buy basic flying at level 60 that will be 150% speed. If there was much doubt before about whether it was faster from 60-70 to boost or quest, I think the flying boost will tip the scale firmly in questing's favor.

Instead of running around at 100% speed on the ground where things are aggroing you and knocking you off (at least occasionally) and having to go the long way around the many mountains, hills, and lakesin the Outlands you just mount up, fly to the quest mobs, kill them, and fly back to the quest giver - all at 150% speed. Oh, and the other huge benefit for those of us playing on PvP servers - we can actually escape murderous level 80s now too

All in all, too many good things coming in the next patch for me to continue leveling my level 60 teams now.

If you follow any kind of quest stacking guide.... Kopp/Joana/Jaime/Zygor etc, questing will be faster then any other option aside from RAF Boosting.
Instances are still worth doing, they're a change of pace, good experience and good rewards.
They keep the game fresh. Mix it up, so you don't burn out.
