Default Looking to field a traditional holy trinity 5 man group

I wonder what you mixed-class boxers are up to these days.

My current 5 man is kind of a gimmick team. Id like to try an old school tank / healer / 3x dps setup for instancing and see how that goes, looking for class recommendations. Id like to avoid rogues, hunters and DKs (so that makes it easier!).

My current team is all melee so id love to try some casters for the 3x dps.

Hoping to hear some of your thoughts.

There the standard pally,3xele,1xresto sham. But if you wanted to go more exotic you can go tank, mage, destro lock, shadow priest, holy priest lol. Only problem with that second team is they will all be using the same gear (except the tank ;p)

My original team was 3 shaman 1 warrior and a resto druid in TBC before it became 5 shaman.

I have been considering picking from my pool of characters that are 60 -70 for a multiclass team.

I am considering doing a prot pally, holy priest, warlock, mage, boomkin. I have a hunter and warrior too but i think i like the idea of the other 5 man.

The only thing that kind of makes me nervous about the casters is their use of targetted AOE. Ive been away a couple months, not sure if theres a better solution to that these days (using keyclone).

I'm also planning on creating a mixed 5 box team soon. I am wrapping up my level 80 DK + 4x elem shaman group and want some more variety for my next team.
I am planning on the following group which I think will be flexible and have tons of buffs and mixed armor type requirements.

Paladin (tank, buffs, rez, plate armor)
Mage (dps, portals, water, food, buffs, cloth dps armor)
Shaman (dps, totems buffs, wipe recovery, rez, cloth, leather, or dps mail armor)
Druid (dps, buffs, rez, cloth or leather dps armor)
Priest (healer, buffs, rez, cloth healing armor)

Should be a fun and flexible group, and more interesting building since I now have experience 5 boxing heroic dungeons with my old group.

You could always do 5 druids and still have the holy trinity (I've been thinking a lot about doing this lately).

Alternately, just doing 3xdps going with warlocks isn't too bad -- they have SoC that is easy to aoe with. I haven't ever used rain of fire on them.
Druids have a non-targeted aoe once they're leveled up as well.

I don't really see how you can go too wrong with any of the ranged dps classes -- sure you may not be able to use the mage's targetable aoe's, but you've still got a few options (including blast wave and arcane explosion). You'd be happy with any of them, really.

Only problem with that second team is they will all be using the same gear (except the tank ;p)
Doesn't the first team have the exact same problem?

Spriests are pretty sweet these days, they have a great aoe aswell, thats easy to use, i have a pally tank x3 spriests and a resto shammy team, and Mind Searx3 does wonders.

I've got a DK tank, 3 spriests, and pally healer and definitely like the priests for dps. Plus the ease of 3x Holy nova being either an aoe damage or a good panic aoe heal with no extra threat is nice. This leaves the pally to do the single target healing he's good at, most of the time. If I sub anything in later it would be a 4th holy priest for the DK and move the pally up front. (luckily i did my initial set as 4 priests and a DK to 69 when i grabbed in my old main pally - so i only have to solo him from 68-80 to catch up)

Im with you Fur, I know everything will work (especially now that they're doing this whole "bring the player..." thing).

Some things just work better than others.

For example, and I might be missing something here, but on paper I cant see why you'd bring a warrior over a paladin to tank. The paladin will mesh well and buff any group he joins, is super easy to play (and to box), etc.

I tried boxing a dk in my melee team and im sure its doable but I just didnt think it was worth the extra effort.

Anyways, happy to hear about your guys' setups, thanks for responding.
