Sucks, but can't say it's surprising. The actual nerf will end up being pretty small since you'll end up just shuffling things around to slot a few 2-color gems to meet meta reqs. It's not like you'll suddenly stop putting red gems in a +stam socket bonus PvE piece or something.
It will still be the best profession for many / most classes... we can be glad it hasn't gotten Engineer'd
