Default Best main in mage/lock dual box?

Thinking about going lock/mage as a combo instead of lock/lock or mage/mage (unless someone convinces me that those are better). So which class would make the best main, the lock or mage? Using keyclone btw. Or would it simply be faster/better to go with lock/lock?

Well, I've never dual-boxed those classes, but from having played them both a ton independently I'd recommend playing the mage as your main. Locks require very little micromanagement(especially if you go Demo, which I would recommend so your pet can tank better). Mages have a bunch of targeted AOE spells as well as things like frost nova, which can be your best friend with two clothies.

The lock (I believe would make the best main) although I guess it kinda depends on your mages spec. There's a lot more micro management required with locks, this is just my opinion of course. Now that's not to say that mage's are one button mashers but playing on your lock would allow easier pet management although everything can be done through macros, among other things.

I'm curious, how much pet management do you really need? With the exception of things like seduce(easily macroed) and one time things like demonic empowerment, the only thing I've ever needed is /petattack, and I just tie that in to it's own macro so you can send the pet in first to tank. FWIW, I never pvped much on my locks, so it's possible that that changes things. For my locks, it was always as easy as /petattack, DoT, DoT, DoT, then drain soul/life or shadowbolt, depending on your needs/preference. Also, if you go affliction, which a lot of people swear by, it does require a little more management, as you have a couple more DoTs to worry about. And I'm sure Destro would require more yet, but that's really not all that common.

That said, I'm far from an expert. I've never played locks past the two I have sitting at 63 right now, and never played a mage post 60.

Wouldn't have a clue lol, never played a lock past level 10. The one thing I did forget as you mentioned was AoE spells. I think Im'a have to change my answer in retrospect lol :| blizzard would be handy for duel boxing especially if you can tank with the warlocks pet /shrug

All the warlock pets have easy macroable spells/abilites that dont need to be mouse clicked. Also, the lock can dot on the run while you jump and manouvere about on your mage. Ice lance with the mage to remove totems and such. Blizzard and flamestrike need targetting. Also if you go frost with water elemental, the pet has a ranged frost nova that needs mouse targetting.

You also said you "wouldn't have a clue" as you haven't played a lock past 10 when asked how much micromanagement you would need. Oh yes, I can read very well. Imo l2lock

Hmm, the evil emoticon isn't as good as our forums imo.

I have plenty of clues, that's just plausible deniability in case the conversation doesn't go my way
