Pallies are overheal machines. I've raided with more overall overhealing than effective healing, plenty of times. It's all them druids and their damn HoTs. I don't use it much anymore, but gearing up it was a lifesaver. It's a lot of mana, but in a 5 man, just keep it on the tank and FOL everyone else = tank lives too. I've even regeared to be a haste healer for ulda, 500+ haste and tons of int and just spam HL. Throw up a bacon on an offtank and you can almost tank heal a 25 man by yourself - till the tank eats 2 20k hits in a row...

That's exactly what it does, so that macro is wrong. I also wouldn't recommend placing the beacon in a cast sequence, because it then has a tendency to cast when you don't want it (usually making you miss that one critical heal that could have saved your tank). Your best bet is to use an add-on that informs you when it's about to expire and recast it manually.
