Default 5 Boxing With at least 1 melee / casters?

    Background:
So I leveled my DK to 80 this week, and I've got crafted PvP gear / Spiked Titansteel helm / Titansteel 2H and I've got him hitcapped and he's doing decent in regular 5 mans. So I transfered him to my lock's account and bring him into my group of five. So now I'm running Feral tank, DK (unholy dps), 2x Elemental Shaman, Resto shaman.

    So here's the team:
    Baylen - Bear
    Menage - Resto Sham
    Aahh - Elem Sham
    Trois - Elem Sham
    TheRuiner - Unholy DK

The problem I'm running into is keeping the lone DK in range / facing the right way. Moving around mobs that try to run behind me as I'm tanking often gets the DK out of range or facing the wrong way. I've changed his /assist macro to a /follow party1 /assist party1 so once I tell everyone to assist, he runs into melee range and assists. Should I change this to make him use the interact to attack?

I went into reg HoL and I can drop the first an second bosses without incident, but the 3rd, rapes me everytime due to my lack of party healing, thats a different thread though :_)

Something else I was considering was running the DK as my MT (despite the bear being VERY geared >.<) and running the bear resto. This would eliminate the melee position, but could hurt my tanking while increasing DPS as my resto shaman would go back to elemental.

Another option when making the DK your main tank, unless you already have the gear for it, is to keep your resto shaman and make your druid a boomkin. That way you only regear 2 of the 3 since the shaman is already resto. That would also give your group a little extra crit from the boomkin.

I thought about this as well. And the only thing thats really stopping me is I never have collected any boom gear. So i'd be boom in resto gear. I have a decent resto set T7/.5 / Naxx / heroic gear. My only real concern is the survivability of the DK is questionable. He's defense capped over 540. And running about 21k unbuffed HP. This is starting area for heroics. But he's pale in comparison to the beast the bear is.

Haven't tried it but.. doesn't spamming Interact with Target (after /assist, and only on the DK of course) solve your facing issues?
You will still have problems positioning (as you usually want melee dps on the back) but overall should work.

Not sure, I'll have to try this, I have interact keys setup

I think you may have a solution here and start running through reg instances to see how you like your DK as a tank. You can also pick up Boomkin gear through those runs. Move to heroics when you think your boomer has appropriate gear and you feel comfortable with your DK as tank. Of course you may hate having the DK as a tank. Worth a shot anyhow.

Yeah I may work on this, I liked the DK tank, this was the same DK tank I was using when I was running a different, mixed group through BC instance, I appreciate (and welcome) the feedback.

I'm pretty sure using the DK as your tank should increase your dps by a fairly decent amount and let you burn bosses faster, plus right now resto druids are making a huge comeback in arena so if you ever wanted to you would be able to start facerolling a nice arena rating lol

Yeah. Like I said it depends on if you already have some gear. It sounds like you plenty of resto gear so it's personal preference as to which you want to gear as a Dps caster. Ele or Bal. As long as your DK is defense capped you should be fine. It will be a little ruff at first but you will find that having your DK tank will add nicely to your overall DPS. Also keeping him an unholy tank will also give your caster heavy group a nice spell power boost as well.

Another thing to think about, If you keep all your shamans elemental you may lose out on a little crit but it will make DPS'ing nice and simple since all 3 have the same spells. You don't have to watch for procs like you would if you made a boomkin. That gives you more room to think about DK rotations and healing.
