    Default So how is arena?

Anyone been in arena lately? I haven't since BC back when the games were more like chess. I ask because I just watched a video of a rogue rated like 2400 who was probly one of the worst players I've seen. Keyboard turning, not attacking from behind during cheapshots/kidney shots, randomly running away from opponents for no reason and mashing attacks while out of range LOL Is it really that easy to get high ratings in arena? Cause this guy was TERRIBLE and somehow wins at high ratings.

Not that it will answer your question much, but I made a 5man arena team a couple weeks back. I got steamrolled 0-10 by 2000+ranked teams I never even managed to kill another player. The following week on a Monday I tried to get my 10 matches in. I was ranked 0 and after a 40 min wait w/o getting a match when the queue time said less than a minute for the last 10 players, I gave the whole arena thing the /finger.

    2v2 is a joke for some combo's.

As most of this forum is of the late 5v5 is frustrating for some but good for others.

From a boxxer point of view and if your running all shammies (I assume all 5v5 teams are) then you need to be very geared (20k+ health and 750+ Res) and have a good healer to really start being able to compete in the higher bracket of 5v5.

    Since you mentioned a rogue...

I'm running rogue/lock (not boxing) in 2v2 right now and I am struggling to keep a 1700 rating. I consider myself to be fairly skilled and I get eaten up by Warriors, Paladins, DKs and Druids (including resto - Thorns FTL) in Arena. If it was 1v1 and I had the opener, I would need all of my cooldowns to kill any of these classes. A paladin can kill a rogue during a 4 second Hammer of Justice, or just bubble and faceroll keyboard. Warriors can whirlwind aoe the shit out of rogues and bleed them out (feint helps, if you play by prediction). DKs... I don't even know what to say about them. 2 pets, big self-heal, 20% damage reduction, a dancing unattackable sword, death-grip, can't stealth around them cause of spreading diseases...oh and plate. Tree-form druids...make me very angry. The reflection damage is completely screwed up. I take more damage than the druid when white-hitting a druid -for every swing-. Fast daggers = dead rogue.

I'm going assume that the video you saw was a 2v2 w/ Priest/Rogue? Yeah... it's not so much an issue of a poorly skilled rogue, but an OP priest. Out of the top 100 rated 2v2 teams, about 25% are Priest/Rogue, 25% DK/Paladin (which are, by far, the two most played classes in the game), 25% Warrior/Druid and 25% Mix of the preceeding classes w/ a very few shaman, mages and locks thrown in (sorry hunters, not a single one).

In my opinion, the healing has gotten out of control. The survivability of healers is just retarded. I would expect to see rogues start to drop significantly. The engineering items were recently nerfed. No more nitro boosts in arena, and the engineering helm no longer increases stealth detection. Almost all of the top 100 rated rogues have engineering and depended on the nitro-boosts for survivability. Expect to see more human rogues and night-elf rogues coming up.

Overall, I would have to say that arena isn't too bad right now (2v2 perspective). The new rating system seems fairly reasonable. The successful comps have already been determined and you may have a hard time if you're not one of them.

If you're interested or just want to see some skilled rogue videos, check out roguerogue.com . Akrios is extremely talented and has some really good videos.

Im not sure why Blizzard continues and try to balance the game after the 2v2 brackett, i rather seen it removed.

The main problem atm is resto druids and ret paladins. You see that ret paladins pretty much use 3 buttons and you can NEVER notice the difference on whos a good one and a bad one. Druids just sitt in the tree form but atleast you notice if he got the brain to use barkskin on the right time making him totaly impossible to kill.

When you move up in the brackets and team a ms class with a ret paladin you suddenly realise that the healing is not out of control.

Rogue/warlock was the combo who got hit hardest by the change that made fear/blind share dim returns wich is realy sad. I rather would seen that it shared cooldown with only psy scream!

Saying that all healers is out of control i would suggest you to try a resto shaman.

The update to the 3v3 and 5v5 brackets are now active.

    ---------

The current arena rating system allows more players to have higher ratings in the 2v2 bracket when compared to 3v3 and 5v5. We are preparing an in-game update that will be improving the rating system of the 3v3 and 5v5 brackets to allow all three of the brackets to have a similar number of players able to achieve ratings on par with what’s currently possible in our 2v2 arena bracket. As a result, we are changing the personal and team rating requirements for the item level 239 weapons from 2200 to 2350, but keep in mind the tooltip will continue to show the requirement as 2200 until patch 3.1.2.

As a result of the above improvements, this change will prevent an excessive number of players from reaching much higher ratings and acquiring the highest grade of weapons in-game. The increase in rating requirements is designed to keep the number of players able to obtain these arena weapons on par with the number of players who are able to obtain the same grade of weapons from Heroic Ulduar.

When Arena Season 7 launches we plan to return the highest rated season 7 weapons back to 2200 while also ensuring that the difficulty in achieving that rating is closer to what is intended, yet of similar difficulty for all brackets (rather than being easier for 2v2). (Source)
