Default Windows 7 RC on a new build

Hey, bought 7 of these a while ago and been planning forever to move over my 6 ITX builds to it.

Also bought one of these and was gonna pair it with a C2D e5400 (already bought :/ ) but decided to use the e8500 outta my old/current main build.

So, I had to take my old main build apart to get the CPU.

Pretty dusty looking heatsink...and I blow it out every 4 months or so. Maybe I should worry about what I am breathing in.

Here's the case with the junk in it. Zotac 9300 itx, with e8500 cpu and 4850 vid card.

Silverstone left enough length on the psu to use on a mid tower...which really makes it pain with this case. Gonna be taking it back apart and shortening, maybe even sleeving the cables at some point. Not looking forward to that, have 7 computers to do. Woulda went with a GTX250 vid card if it were out when I was shopping, oh well.

Only been playing with the new build for an hour now. Windows 7 RC loaded up with no problems. Everything is runnign very smooth and looks very sleek. Love the new look. Will load up EQ2 later and see how that goes.

Here's a couple pics of my future main build. Still waiting on a GTX285 to come in. Probably just use a single 285 till the GT300 cards come out. Maybe will also physX my GTX260 or 8800GTX card. Was hoping to overclock this build to 5GHz+, but they gave me a 920 C0 stepping instead of the new D0 stepping. It might have been possible with D0, but unlikely with C0. I might just go ahead and buy a new 920 witha D0 gauruntee or maybe something more expensive. It will go in my Antec 1200 case and just be aircooled till I get around to completeing my scratch build case, then I will water cool the hell outta it.

I just installed Windows 7 RC x64 to a new partition on my hard drive and love it. The partition is solely for boxing so I kept it barebones: OS, WoW, Keyclone, Add-ons and AVG antivirus. I'm 5-boxing on dual monitors with Keyclone. The RAM usage is sitting at just over 3GB & CPU runs around 75%. So far in Eversong Forest the alts are holding at 30fps and the main is steadily at 50fps as set in Keyclone. Video settings on main are WoW's default, alts are low/mid settings. The toons are freshly rolled this morning, so if I run into much lag in Orgrimmar or further down the road like Dalaran I have a Win7 x64 PC I just built for about $350 to take the load of two alts.

    Main rig:

    Q6600 (stock), 4GB DDR2 PC800, 150GB Windows7 x64 partition, Radeon 4850 512MB, Keyclone

    Spare rig in the waiting:

    Athlon X2 7750 (stock), 4GB DDR2 PC800, 150GB Windows7 x64 partition, Radeon 3870 512MB, Keyclone

    50fps as set in Keyclone

Alwasy set your frame rate as a whole fraction of your screen refreash rate. I.e. if you have 60HZ refresh then go either 60 or 30 fps (maybe 45). I forgot why though.

I hadn't heard of that before, but would it really matter on LCD's? I can see CRT monitors having a flickering/slideshow effect if the numbers didn't math, especially so if you were video recording it. /shrug I'll google for more info and go up to a 60fps cap if its the case.

Have you installed that cooler onto your RAM? Im thinking about getting one for my Dominator ram.

Also: What cooler do you plan on using for your i7 in the new build?

On two separate occasions I have installed RAM fans (OCZ and ???), but none seem to have much of an effect.

I haven't bothered putting the ram fan on. Just slapped the new i7 stuff I ordered together to make sure everything works and my GTX285 needs to be RMA'd as it is rebooting the computer on some pretty simple stuff. Supposedly, overclocking can/does cause the ram to heat up. I am not much of an overclocker, but the mild OC's I have done didn't really heat the ram up much. With this build and once I get my watercooling case completed, I will probably buy an i7 975 cpu and hopefully go over 5ghz as a 24/7 clock. Maybe then, the ramn fan will actually be useful.
