Thread: Old World Raids

Actually I was thinking about starting a 60 twink account just for shits n giggles and how cool it would be to dual wield http://thottbot.com/i22798 on a 60 warrior w/ a resto shaman backing him. Tragically it's not possible but the whole affair made me think about trying to run some of this stuff.

I still think it relies at least a tad on your setup but most of the time I reckon you should be able to force your way through if you're 80. Its afk/ezmode if you have 10 people so 5 should still be easy enough I reckon.
From my experience there are a few bosses that will be really frustrating if you're 'only' 5 boxing them:

    Bwl:
Razegore sucks as someone said because of the dragon controlling. However, I found vaelastras to be far more frustrating. Either you have to be able to do a huge load of damage to him very fast or you have to have a second tank because the first one explodes (and so do your dds so you'll want even more dmg). Chromaggus also sucks big time if you have a pally tank, and if you've got the wrong setup (only being able to dispell one debuff (curse / magic / poison / disease) ) you won't be able to beat him because you get turned into a dragon if you happen to have all debuffs at once. Having ony cloaks for the tanks also helps a lot on the dragon bosses after the suppression room and is somewhat required for nef (and it would be a 'nice to have' for non tanks too).

edit: There is also magic immune trash in bwl, so if you're farming ore you will really want someone who's able to do melee dmg or you'll pull your hair out

Aq40: Sekram is really the second worst fight in there for a multi boxer imo. If you manage to beat him 5 boxing then you should be able to clear everything else sans perhaps c'thun and twin emps. C'thun is bugged at the moment, there is a huge difference in damage from the stomach acid between casters and melee. Casters don't last long in there
Twin emps also depend on your setup a lot, you'll have a hard time with a caster only setup in there but it should be doable.

Just going from 5 to 7 or 8 will make a world of difference for all of these bosses, so if you just want to see stuff go and invite one additional tank and 2 dps and clear it easily

    Just my 2 cents
    kind regards
Yeah Skeram was a pain in the ass to begin with. Props to anyone who 5 boxes him on their own. Its mostly just the MC that kills ya :P

How WORTH it is it? I haven't done it but I will just for fun. I can run 10 guys if I want, but was curious how much cash you got from MC, all bosses. And do you need a key again? My main is exalted with they Hydroxian dudes but my shammies haven't been there, lol.

You don't need any keys, just have to be attuned to MC - not sure if they removed the attunement requirement yet but if not than it takes literally 5 minutes to get. You used to have aqual quintessence to put out the runs near each boss but that has been changed - kill the boss and it goes out now.

Feel free to join me tomorrow when its reset. Usually I just collect all the drops with one guy and vendor it off, plus the gold off the bosses, its not stellar but its decent for a short romp though the 'hallowed core'. I sold a handful of lava cores for 260g the other day so it can be worthwhile - which I guess people are using to max out their Thorium Brotherhood reputation. Plus I have 7 pieces of Tier 1 now and the Tier 2 legs off Rags for my Paladin... thats totally worth it

All I'm really going for now is probably crafting the legendary mace and hoping for some bindings to drop to make the Thunderfury. With your group I'm sure we could clear BWL no problem too.

    MC
I didn't solo, but about 10 of my guildies got together to get some of the old world raid achievements and to get a little gear for a couple folks who were leveling alts. I brought mylvl 80 Prot Pally/Holy Priest/Arcane Mage team to MC. I set up as a sort of "off group" handling my own packs of ads while we were clearing trash, and then just contributing DPS / heals when we were on the bosses. That one boss that "set us up the bomb" was a bit of a pain - I just parked my pally and mage out of range and solo-healed rather than dealing with the possibility that I'd "train the raid".

The final boss (Ragnorok or something like that) did that horrible pushback that split my team so far apart that I ended up forgetting about the pally... just concentrated on healing the others and had my mage spam arcane misiles.

I'd say that I could ~probably~ have solo triple-box cleared it, but it would have taken a while.

Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but I find that mechanics that cause my toons to get out of range of each other really throw me off.

    AQ 20
I four-manned (my triple box team and one guildie friend) AQ 20 once. That one's not too bad except for those darn sand mound thingies that would pop up and silence my priest/mage. Once I realized what was going on, I just let my guild buddy tank in that area and I kept my team light on their feet. On, and those sludge/slime things that "eat" your mele? not too bad once you know not to get close to em

    BWL
Brought my triple-box team with about 10 guildies (mostly naxx-geared 80s) to BWL, and we had a TOUGH time with that first boss with the eggs and the mind control pedistal... cleared that stuff okay, but things got dicey cuz we blew all our mana trying to stop the infinite adds that spawn after the fight ends. After that, things went fairly smoothly.

    AQ 40
Went with a few guildies... could NOT get past the twins... that knockback thing totally messed up my following and whatnot. The twins probably require way too much coordination and separate action (due to the heall/buff-if-theyre-too-close-together mechanic) to be truly multiboxable, but I suppose there might be a workable strategy out there somewhere.

    Onyxia
Soloable by most 80s. Pew Pew ... dead.

    ZG
Went with several guildies (5-ish geared 80s plus my triple team, and a couple 65-ish). The place was pretty much a ROFLstomp. I'm pretty sure it's boxable, though you have to watch out on taht one boss that separates your toons over to the side.

    Burning crusade
Several of my guildies got together for "bc raid nights" and roflstomped Hyjal, BT, TK, and SSC with about 10 geared 80s. I didn't triple box those because of some of the mechanics involving movemet/positioning. We had more trouble on some of the old 60 old world stuff just because most of us were already very experienced in the BC content, having done much of it in the pre-nerf 70 days. We also did Grul and Mag and I DID bring my triple box team to those. The only difficulty there was the shatter and ceiling collapse in Grul (cept he didn't live long enough for it to be an issue), and that annoying pushback in Mag.

    Final thoughts
I'd say that the places where I've encountered trouble (even with multiple geared 80s single boxing) is when folks get the idea that since they're 80s, that old content doesn't need to be given any respect. There are still fights and mechanics that (in my opinion) brute force alone will NOT get the job done. My advice to anyone is to at least read up a bit on the boss strategies / abilities so that you're not just "bull in a china shop"-ing your way around and you'll have a much easier time.

@DgtlSorcrs: In MC for Ragnaros its all about positioning, when I box this I stick my 4 shamans in front of the ledge/wall so if they get flung in the air they won't go all over the place. Theres also an ideal tanking position right in front of him where if you get pushed back you land on top of the ledge and then can just run back into position without taking too much fall damage. I'm sure if you take a look at any of the old positioning strategies you'll see what I mean. Having done this boss about 100 times before I even heard about multiboxing made this a one shot when I first tried but I'm sure it can be hella frustrating when your guys are flung around all over the place.
