    Default thoughts on updates

    i have been considering a change to keyclone and would like to get input from the community.

    out-of-game macros

    basically... the ability to associate a key stroke with a string.
    ie:
    F8 --> /focus joe \n/follow focus

    i realize it would be very useful to us, but i have always seen it as over the line, allowing the user to breach the 'one key press == one key in game' rule of thumb.

    thoughts?

    Keep what you have working for you. The only verbally endorsed software out there. Don't fuck up a good thing Rob

    You mean like creating WoW Macros for the user? How would making a WoW Macro breach anything related to one key = one action? Unless you mean literally typing /focus and /follow, which would be a wholly bad idea.

    Queue response from Rob saying something about pots and kettles (p.s. the ISBoxer method is to generate a WoW Addon that creates the macros and binds them to the keys)

    Edit: Someone mentioned the WoW Mouse and Vyndree's review of it, since it sounded like the same method would be used. Vyndree demonstrates a reason or two behind my "wholly bad idea" statement.

    the capability has been requested numerous times, and for situations unrelated to wow. as any change might impact wow, i am checking to see the overall thoughts.

    and lax, i've never run is, so i have no idea what you're doing. legal? if you're making a wow macro that would require a wow reload, then its prolly within the lines.

    who mentioned the wow mouse??

    Hi,

    your idea of out-of-game macros is excellent.

    EDIT : Can you also add a way to enter the passwords automatically ?

    who mentioned the wow mouse??
    I was discussing this thread with some people and one of them mentioned that the WoW mouse works like he thinks you're describing, and that Vyndree reviewed it and suggested that it was unreliable. So I offered the comparison based on the similarity.

    I can see valid reasons outside of WoW, and I'd personally fall on the side that would say using a "typing a macro" feature is out of line based on my interpretation of WoW multiboxing guidelines, but Blizzard actively promotes the WoW Mouse which apparently works that way so who knows. My initial reaction is that you're making an assumption about the state of the game when those keys get pressed, so if someone happened to be typing in the chat window at the time, now they automatically send a line of chat like "hold on i need to kill this boss/focus joe" whereas sending a single key would, at worst, add a single character and not automatically press enter Or they're holding W move forward and the macro happens to include a W. Stuff like that. It's too easy to screw up, that's all I'm suggesting -- implement it if you like, it would be useful to various people.

    You wouldn't have to run IS -- ISBoxer is generating a WoW Addon that creates macros (and would indeed require a WoW reload e.g. /console reloadui to make macro changes), and I don't think anyone has offered an interpretation that it is outside the lines.

    yea, the wow mouse works like the G15... IOW, not quite what we want. i would side with Vyndree in that it is definitely a disappointment... not to mention confusing to have something that so blatantly contradicts the guidelines we have gleaned over time. *sigh*

    @Hilkarus
    i would be cautious to add any mechanism that would store passwords. my recommendation, if you are playing wow, would be to sync all passwords ... and get the Blizzard authenticator. no worries about passwords getting stolen... ever.

    Okay, then in the case my 5 accounts have the same password, is it possible you add a dialog box in which it is possible to input the password which will then be passed to all wows open ?
    so instead of entering 5 times my password, I'd just need to enter it once in this dialog box. Or maybe someone has a way to do this ?

    Thanks

    If they are all the same... just enable DNP and type it in on the main screen and it'll pass that to each window regardless of white/black lists.

    Yep, I have 10 accounts with the same password and I can log into all 10 of them at the same time by typing in the password with DNP, then an authenticator code linked to all 10 accounts. Very handy with no risk.

    As for Keyclone mods, I'd have to side with the majority here saying don't screw up a good thing. If you DO decide to add some questionable functionality, could you name it something different? MacroClone or something? Keyclone has done so much for me and the pittance I spent on the 3 copies I've bought for different machines don't do justice to the benefit I've gotten out of the current version. I'm sure there are tons of boxers like me out there. Why risk a change?
