Default Vertical Rotation, My monitor doesn't support it.

Is there a way to force a resolution to a monitor? I have an Acer AL2216W and i can't for the life of me figure out how to put a vertical resolution on it. According to Acer, it's not supported, but there's gotta be a way to force windows to output 1050*1680 to it.

I currently use a 37" monitor for my 4 slaves, but It's just too big to box with, so I want to get another 22, and put em both sideways like I've seen in some other members pics. It looks like the cleanest way to go, and I only need one monitor, whereas if I went the 5 monitor route, I'd need 2-3 monitors.

Is this even possible? Or should I look into selling this model and getting one that specifically supports rotation?

I'm not sure - but wouldn't the video card be responsible for the rotation of the display rather than the acutal monitor

So the video card would need to support it rather than the monitor.

(I have no actual experience, but it seems to me the monitor just outputs what is sent to it, so you rotate the monitor through 90 degrees, then change the resolution to match the reduced width but greater height).

Rotation is a feature of the Video Card not the Monitor. What brand card do you have?

For Nvidia cards go into the nvidia control panel (right click desktop, nvidia control panel) and then under the "Display" category on the left find "rotate display."

For ATI cards go into the Catalyst Control Center (right click desktop, Catalyst Control Center) and then under the "Displays Manager" category click "Display Properties" and on the right find "Rotation."

And if you have an Ati card you may not have the control center, I had to go to their website and down the catalyst control center, but from there you get the awesome choice!

I have nVidia cards, a GTX 260 and an 8800GT. I remember trying it once before, but something wasn't right. I will try it again and see if it works. I also found a utility called iRotate, which I will also try.

Now I have to decide whether I want to get a new stand that lets me rotate the screen, or plunk down the cash for a new monitor with a built in swivel stand... I found a $45 stand at newegg, and a $150 22" lcd that looks like a decent match (aesthetically) for my existing 22" screen, or a 22" with bult in stand (and speakers to boot) for $209. Not sure $15 worth of work will be saved by purchasing a new one or not. Ideally I'd just get 2 of the new LCDs, but why spend an extra $160?

Unless someone wants to buy my 22" off of me...
