Can't get two wow's connected to same server

Hi there, I'm new to this. I've read alot of info on these forums the past several days to get primed and ready to go.

First: the problem. I cannot get both WoW clients to connect to the same realm at the same time. I'm not sure if this is a blizzard problem or not. I *CAN* get both wows connected to different realms, and either wow will connect to my desired server if it is the only one I'm attempting to connect to that server.

In other words, I can get WOW1 to connect to Shadowsong fine, but then WOW2 no matter how many times I try keeps coming back to the realm list after about 30 seconds. If I switch realms or close WOW1, then after about 5 or 6 additional tries on WOW2 it will connect to Shadowsong. Now I try to connect WOW1 to Shadowsong again, no go even if I try several (read: 20+) times, it keeps coming back to the realm list.

My setup, since I know you're going to ask:

One PC. Two copies of WoW in separate folders. WinXP Pro SP3. No junction links, two entirely separate copies of the game.
Two WOW accounts

Here may be the issue: they're both linked together under a battle.net account. This cannot be undone, and I did this in the past without thinking it may affect my future plans to dual-box.


Does anybody have any clue? Anybody else experiencing this? Is it a blizzard problem? I'm of the mindset it might be, since the other night I had the same issue (albeit less severe) when running just one wow client. It just would not connect to certain realms, until I tried several times after being punted back to the realm list.

The battle.net account functionality is not causing you're problems, I'll hop into different realms at the same time and then hop back to my main realm on all my accounts without issue. With the recent patch battle.net accounts did experience some log in issues, but I haven't had any outside of the publicly announced issues. Make sure to turn off any / all firewalls and try again? Sounds like something is prohibiting the 2nd WoW from fully connecting. If it is any server you try to connect both on, I'd imagine it's a firewall / software issue on your side, if it's just a specific server, could be a blizzard issue.

Hmmm, I don't think it's a firewall issue. As I mentioned I could get either WOW to connect to my desired server, as long as it was the first one in. Nevertheless, I did try it with my firewall turned off and it didn't make a difference.

I'm currently of the belief it's a blizzard battle.net account thing, after what you posted and after my own observation of the same problem (albeit alot milder) when just single-boxing.


Here's hoping that's all it is and it gets fixed in the next day or two so I can start my dual-boxing career.

Still no luck. Anybody have any clues on this? I did a quick google search and saw that somebody on these forums posted this awhile back, but never got a resolution as he was trying to dual-box an account that wasn't his (against TOS).

I, however, own both these accounts and would love to get up and running dual-boxing. Since somebody else has had this problem before (and he said it worked on his laptop but not his desktop), it leads me to believe it's a configuration issue, but I'm stumped as to what the configuration issue could be. I've tried with my firewall off (for those who are going to jump to that conclusion), and it didn't help...

Found the solution way back in the history of these forums.

Put my PC in the DMZ. My router wasn't translating NAT properly.
