    Default Key Clone Question

I have been experimenting with Key Clone and its is effective for getting all my characters to act together as one.

Is there a way to get each character to act individually when I issue a command (ie a button click, an xKey button push, or a voice command) ?

There are times when I would want my group to move as one, but then there are times when I would want a member to act alone from the group and I need those issued commands not sending messages back to the other computer.

My setup just so you know where I am coming from...

Three computers, one wow account per machine. The machines connect via IP not via command and/or using pip.

In trying to get this to work, I have discovered that I really do not need a keymap. If command button 1 on my action bar it sends the signal unilaterally without a problem to other machines, no key map required. I have experimented with the do not pass list feature without success. I set up button pushes on the subordinate machine on which I want that that toon to act alone so, it does not pass anything back to the others, but this does not work. I have experimented with the send only and that shuts off the machine I want to act alone at times.

Any Key Clone experts out there, I would appreciate your wisdom and knowledge. Thanks

Either use the pause broadcasting button whie using the individual client, or bind whatever you want to do to a different key for each character, perhaps as the secondary bind so you can still do it together with your primary bind.

In the effort of learning KeyClone by trial and error, I have discovered a potential issue preventing me from setting up a character to act independently from the group. At least I know now this is not a KeyClone issue but rather how the computer interprets a keystroke or there could be conflicts in interpreting data on a characters’ WTF folder.

The ideal KeyClone operation as it is designed, is that you run KeyClone on each machine that you are going to multibox on, so that keystrokes can be sent and executed, thus making the character behave as intended in the game. This setup assumes no multi-instancing on one machine but rather each machine has its own individual instance of wow running for me anyways. I know a lot of you to there multi-instance.

Normally if you play the same class on each box you can pretty much set your action button configurations to be identical to each other and that way you have consistent game play behavior, but me, I am different. I generally do not box with the same class on all boxes. I box with three characters and two of the three may be the same but the third group member is always a healer of some kind. Furthermore I do not like executing commands or character abilities all at the sametime, like for example if you had all warlocks and they execute shadow bolt in harmony. I like to control each character on my terms issuing commands that may differ from each character in the group at any given time. Playing like this using xKeys is cumbersome, however using voice command makes it easy.

In order to get characters in the group to act independently you would need to assign different keystrokes on the characters action buttons. For example on the typical action bar numbered 1 though 0 and then minus key and equal key you would have to change it to differ to something like alt1 through alt 0 on one computer and then ctl1 through ctl0 on the second computer. That way if alt1 is assigned serpent sting on one computer and ctl1 is assigned renew on the second computer, when I issue a voice command “renew” ctl1 is sent and when ctl1 is sent to the other computer via KeyClone nothing happens because that computer does not have an ctl1 assignment. Sounds good in theory correct? Because if I had renew and serpent stings assigned to just plain key 1 without alt or ctl, then it would not matter if I said renew or serpent sting the 1 key would execute and both computers would execute their respective assignments, which means the characters act in harmony as opposed to being individually controlled.

Here is the problem. Despite having one computer’s action buttons using alt and the second computer’s action buttons using ctl, each computer ignores the alt and ctl and executes as if the keystroke is the same. So the purposes of my characters behaving individually, is thwarted. However I do not think that this is an issue caused from KeyClone because when I was trouble shooting the behavior, I closed KeyClone and just allowed VAC to send the keystrokes via voice command. I believe the problem to be how the computer is receiving the information. Furthermore I believe and it’s a hunch, that it may have something to do with the character’s WTF folder and the files therein.

Normally, when you play a character on a computer its sets up a WTF folder on that computer as expected. For most people that is one computer and one WTF folder per character. But what if you are person like me may and use each computer for any of your three wow accounts and a character’s WTF folders are created on each computer? That may create an opening for possible data conflict. If the character’s WTF folder contains files about the characters’ saved variables, is it possible that when issuing commands for my priest on the desired computer are issued, key clone on the second computer receives it and issues it to wow, which in turn may use the WTF folder and the file therein as a reference for the keybindings for the priest instead of intended hunter. When it does it does a hunter’s ability executes and does so on the exact same button position on the priest’s computer. For example, on the first action button for the priest (priest’s computer) I may have renew with ctl1 assigned and on the hunter (hunter’s computer) I may have serpent sting with alt1. Each ability has a unique keybind ctl1 and atl1 but in the same location the first button on the action bar. Renew is spoken, keyclone transmit ctl1, keyclone on the hunter’s computer receives ctl1 and looks for ctl1 and see that no such assignment exists so it should do nothing, but instead serpent sting executes anyway. Why? Is it using the priest’s WTF folder and files on the hunter’s computer? Is keyclone not paying attention to alt1 or ctl1 but rather paying attention to the specific action button being clicked regardless of its hotkey assignment?

I will just have to troubleshoot it more this evening.

You can send commands to a client, and have the client receive the command and do a different command.

I read the information on the link and it made a little sense, but it was still lacking as it did not connect all the dots. I dug deeper into the forums on this website and found the "silver bullet" that clarified it all.

I would like to give a huge thanks to Zzyzxx71 showing his response at the bottom of the post thread. Once I saw this, I made the leap and Keymapping and Hotstrings became instantly clear.

Now I know what I must do!

Thank you for caring and pointing me in the right direction
