Technical Question

Ok
so i just formatted my hard drive
all went well, got back onto the net etc
but since i have installed wow i am getting some funny( for lack of a better word) LAG
when i'm playing mayb once a minute my mouse will freeze, but if i move the mouse around boxes still highlight
ie: the mouse is still recieving movements but they are not showing on the screen
i have NO IDEA what this could be as im not exactly computer savvy
and also worryingly it seems a tad slower then it was pre format
any help is appreciated as i know most of the people here dream about hardware etc :P

What you should ask is: What did I reinstalled? and what I haven't yet? and what updates I am missing? and is there any drivers I missing or need to update? did I got latest pack installed?

but this is all just speculation on little data you give me >.>
need more things to know.

I had a friend that bought new video card and sayed he installed it properly, but his internet works really really slow, and whould load too long.
and what do you know what I find out when I came to him? he didn't even bother to insert CD that came with card and didn't installed drivers at all, and it was only his screen updating so slow LOL =P

hmm i'll turn down the refresh rate and see if that helps

Why did you reinstall? I ask because if it didn't resolve anything or make your system faster, then you either have not installed all your windows updates or drivers like chipset, video, nic, sound etc or still using old native drivers, or you have an underlying hardware problem that reinstalling obviously will not resolve.

If you have Vista, install service pack one. That will fix a lot of performance issues.

Your statement above tells me you know something is wrong with your hardware. Why did you format your HDD in the first place?

i dont KNOW something is wrong
im assuming as my system is going on three years old


i formatted because
- im paranoid..
- for about the last six months whenever i try to shut down i get a "program not responding box" for WMSidle, for the life of me i had no idea what it was
and i was sick of it, and i could never find it..

in hindsight i may not have needed to format but its worked in the past
