Default please help me choose HARDWARE setup device from VETRA

I have decided to go ahead with original plan for boxing 6 toons in LOTRO and just use 6 PCs

but now after reading the forums and search ive decided I need a multicaster thingy

I am very confused on which would serve my purpose the best .... please help me decide ( THE SWITCHCASTER IS new since you put your guide together )

I will be controlling my main on one keyboard mouse and the other 5 toons on the multicaster thingy ....

Make sure I buy the correct thingy I need please... I do not understand the diffence in the ones I am going to list other than Price please explain and guide me if you can....

    http://www.vetra.com/wow.html VETRA MMO products

Switch caster 8 ports $359 - $500 ish not sure which I need or even the differnece in them

    OR

Megacast 5 port $329 - $459 again not sure what difference is betwen them

So Switchcaster or Mega cast and which would I need .... any help would be appreciated before I ordered

Based on what I read if I read it correctly the switchcaster allows you to in addition to running one keyboard mouse actually switch between individual computers .... based on that I think i would need the 8 port switchcaster but still not sure which 8 port to get if that is the correct choice

The Megacast is their orinal multicaster line. The Switchcasters are better, as they act as a switch or a multicaster.

In Xzin's original writeup he spoke about having a switched keyboard channel and a multicasted channel... The Switchcaster's work as both.

If your going to be 6 boxing, I woiuld recommend you use the VIP-808-KM-B-X Switchcaster.

I'm not a hardware boxer; but if I were going to go that route, that is the switch I would choose.

    * Supports up to 8 PCS
    * Allows Expansion (Who knows when I might decide to upgrate to raid boxing?)
    * Supports switching

As you noticed there are a range of options and prices for the VIP-808 switchcaster. Here is a brief description of the differences.

VIP-808-KM-B: base model number - connects one keyboard and mouse to up to 8 PCs. Will switch to a single PC or broadcast to all PCs simultaneously. See http://www.vetra.com/808B_text.html for more features.

Add -X option: expansion. Allows more than one switchcaster to be linked together so you can control more PCs. If you ever want to box more than 8 characters, you need it.

Change -KM to -KMV: adds video switching. Allows a single monitor to be switched between the PCs as well. If you'll only use the switchcaster for gaming, you don't need it; the monitor takes too long to re-sync after switching, but if you ever want to use the switchcaster as a conventional KVM switch later on, you'll want it.

Add -DE option: direct entry. Has 8 pushbuttons on the front face of the switchcaster so you can change channels directly by pushing a button. With or without it, you can always change channels from the keyboard. You probably don't need it.

If you have any questions about our products and features or would like help configuring your system, please feel free to contact us directly.

I really appreciate you answer my thread directly ... i have 6 lcds bracketed now 3 on top and 3 on the bottom ... I liek the push button idea insteas of keyboard actually ... I will need to run 5 accounts

6 max if i decide to ditch LM and add another hunter sometime for simplicity ... I will never box more than 8

so with that information woul dyou reccomend this option for me ? if i am understanding everyting correctly it seems the logical choice ....

VIP-808-KM-B-DE: 8 port KVM Switch / Multicaster. Switch or multicast one PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse between eight PCs. PC selection via keyboard "hot-key", or direct entry front panel switches. You will need 16 6-pin mini-DIN male-male cables, such as our VIP-300-6MM-06 cables, to connect to the PCs.
    $459.00

ATM i am just running one keyboard mouse off of 5 wireless receivers .. it does the trick but switching will make it all better when i need to
