This is not something you should not even think about, I got an email 9 months ago where i had to confirm how many accounts i was paying for and i had to say the account name and that was it... But they didnt need any personal information or PW or anything. Only the account names and an email from me saying they where all mine

    So dont trust that

Friend of mine now loves chinese farmers. Since i am coming back to wow to multibox, he decided to see what happened to his account. Turned out he's had a key logger on his system for ages and someone had got a hold of the account, even transfered it off. So, he calls up blizzard and, in a few questions, has the toon back to where it was supposed to be with the information back to normal. However, the farmer that got the account hadn't sold the gold yet...

It's not just Chinese farmers. These phisher e-mails are the bread and butter of US and Canadian and European players, as well. A simple google search for "Wow exploits" will lead you to most of the popular sites where they discuss this kind of thing openly. They trade fake websites as packages to use, and they copy and paste the same e-mails from each other, and one of the more notorious sites even sells e-mail hosting to send the spam out.

Just yesterday, i was reading on one of the more blatant sites about a script a guy was sharing that mines lists of guild sites, and even shows where to get the addresses, including the wow forums. They get thousands that way. They also script for e-mails off sites like mmo-champion, WowInsider, you name it. I'll bet they've tried here, stealing 5+ accounts at a time would make them very happy. Check your sigs, and make sure your e-mail isn't easily read. I also read on a different site that they set up a banner generator site, for people to make banners of their character for forums like this, so they could use the e-mails. Free banner, just sign in with a working e-mail, you get a banner, they get your e-mail.

If you've used the e-mail you set your accounts up with anywhere else on the web, odds are good they'll dig it up eventually.

I used an account I don't use anywhere, I have an earthlink account I've had forever for non-crucial stuff, I don't care if they spam the bejeezus out of it, I don't check it very often. I've yet to get one of these e-mails.

It's THE #1 way accounts are stolen now, by the farmers, and fellow players. That's why Blizzard is even putting it in the yellow log in chat text now. The ONLY way this kind of thing can be defeated is if every player is made aware of them, but with millions of players, there will be enough gullible or naive enough to believe the fake e-mails.

They also figured out how to use the new battlenet merge feature to steal accounts, merge them with their account, and move characters. Not sure if they've plugged that hole yet, but they were all over it within an hour of it being released.

Keyloggers are still #2, but those are most definitely farmers from foreign lands, they're expensive to get working ones made, and getting them out there is challenging, and most of the PhishKiddies are lazy and ignorant and just copy and paste what everyone else does.

The ones that really make me laugh are the pathetic little phishing vids they make and put on places like Youtube. Seriously, do people actually fool for this crap? Honestly, if you're naive enough to believe it then more fool you!
I would love to get hold of these little shits though! It would give me great satisfaction wringing their necks!
