I would say your theory would fly on a role playing server.....maybe. But on any other server? Nope. ROFLCopter FTW!Originally Posted by 'Allestaria',index.php?page=Thread&postID=194492#p ost194492

If you can't play by the rules then don't play. Its pretty simple. The naming policy doesn't state. RP only or Oh you can but no one else can.
You can pity yourself all you want. Its not cute, funny, or even interesting to see names that don't fit the game. I know those who do it think.. OMG this is like soo cool. And yet its not. Its just like the stupid chuck norris jokes that went out years ago. People who spam them think they are being funny and cute and "LOOK AT ME I"M COOL" crap but they are non of the above.
It comes down to the lack of being able to be creative. It proves childish and lame. Anyone can do Llalalalala yep lots of thinking went into that one. Might as well sell gold while your at it. You know how people LOVE those spams.
I even went as far as having blizzard remove one of their own names they came up with. Succubus Jhorny.... Removed it from their list of names but my pet is STILL stuck with that stupid pet name.
Oh and the last guy I seen with Roflcopter had to change it. Which reminds me another one did it gotta get him in place too.
lol, you’re pretty ridiculous.
Blizz needs to realize there are millions of people who play this game who have many toons we can't all have names like Spot, George, and Sally. ffs if it’s not offensive then stfu. Allestaria I pity you.

Alliance
ahh I pity you to. Learn to be creative. I mean its really really hard to do I understand.
But do give it a try..you can be amazed what you can do.
I run a mostly PvE oriented group, but on a PvP server, and in the pvp encounters i've had, they always try to take out my priest, as soon as they realize I have one. My 4 alts are all variants of my wife's name, Christine with different letter "i" characters. Their character models are also identical, so other than gear, you can't really tell them apart. But i guess they just tab through and wait for the white color priest bar or something. But this is just against 4-5 horde who know what they are doing. I can usually nuke one right off the bat with 3x AP PoM Pyros, and some arcane barrages, but I can't really maintain too much. I usually get fear bombed, or a hunter thermo nukes one mage before I can even find him (with whatever those flaming arrows that explode, MAN they hurt)
I came to assist some alliance that was getting camped, and one was a resto sham that spammed chain heal on me and I just totally pwned the 5 hordies (I was freshly dinged 80 and had just blues and greens, and a few lvl 70 epics) PvP is so mobile, my priest is a bit under used. Other than my insta cast Hots, and AoE heals, I can't do much while running. I need to macro some better per toon healing, Up to now I've managed with focustargettarget for general healing, with dedicated tank healing buttons, and AoE heals for the rest. But It would be awesome if I could figure out how to throw a shield on whoever is getting targeted.
Back on topic, I think the character names help a bit on PvP, but not to the extend of giving you too much of an advantage. It only really works on shitty teams, which you could probably take out without the name advantage anyway. I am considering changing my priests name so I can more easily identify (and macro for) because in some raids, the boss does something to random toons, and I have no idea which one...
Back prior to the paid name changes, one of the things they did not allow was a trademarked name.
A friend was given an account by a different friend and tried to get the name of the mage changed.
So he did a ticket on another account complaining that it was a trademarked (drug).
The GM said you need to get the trademark holder to complain in writing.
Same friend asked a GM about ascii symbols in names, specifically accents over letters.
As of this month, the reply was to the effect... they were prohibited characters at one point.
But currently there's nothing against accents over your toons name.
Éñäñà is currently an allowed name, that's purely an example name though.
I was about to post saying about it being a load of crap regarding banned accents over letters...you try playing on a euro server where half the population use these accents in every day life :P

I named all my druids some combination of ILLIMATIC, cause that name is cool yo. So I had ILILMATIC, IILLIMATIC, etc. It's really hard to read when its lower case Illmatic vs Ilimatic.
