Totally agree with both Herc and Crayon - all plats$$$ and first dibs at the loot goes straight to the tank, other group members come a distant second

    I usually dominate an area....
Yes...with a 6 boxing team you will dominate some, if not all, dungeons - as your starting off, the dungeons you will wtfpwn pretty much now till whenever are WC / BB / SH / FG - as a matter of fact, pretty much all public dungeons - and - tbth - this will continue all the way up to places like karnor's castle where an organised 6 man can basically pillage all the names in very little time

Just on that point - I 'always' make a point of doing a /who as soon I zone into a dungeon - if there already is a full group in the zone, there's a good chance you'll be competing for names - in times like this, a scout is a necessity as tracking, combined with smuggle, is very very uber

track makes life so much easier. and there is one lesson that wowers coming to eq need to learn.

    KILL PLACE HOLDERS!

Often people only kill mobs they need for quest and skip anything else they dont need. This creates an entire area of place holders and 1 or 2 spawns spawning your quest mob making it feel like your quest update is super rare. Its usually not.
also for name spawns, kill the place holders that spawn where a name should be. especially in dungeons.

I just kill everything even if it's not a place holder.

And on that note, what is the best way to have the tank pull a group of mobs?
I was killing some heroic gnolls last night...and it didn't seem to matter what I did, I would get entire rooms of mobs.
When I targetted 1, I would see them in a pack of 3 most of the time. So they didn't seem to be all linked.

It was VERY fun, but I know I won't be able to tank 12 heroic mobs forever.

I've tried pulling with Taunts and bows so far.

OH and also DING our guild is level 4 /flex. :P

For EQ1, I use to fade pull with my bard or feign death pull with my SK or my enchanter would cast calm spells on things my mainassist targets and I could calm usually 5 or 6 targets before the first calm spell starts wearing off. I don't know if bards can even fade in EQ2 and I don't know if FD is the same mechanics in EQ2, but I do know my templer has a "soothe" spell and it reads as a calm spell to me. "Reduces awareness of enemies", so I assume if I cast it on mobs that are normally in agro range of each other, then once this spell is casted on em, their agro range will be severely cut down and you should be able to pull other mobs around them without the mob you casted soothe on agroing durring the duration of the spell and it's a non agro spell unless resisted. Which is why I always used my enchanter instead of my cleric (cleric also gets a soothe spell in EQ1), but I don't see a similar spell in my illusionist spellbook, yet. At what point do mobs start doing social agro in EQ2? I thought they only agro via linked mobs, but with a soothe spell in my templers spellbook....I guess eventually the mobs become social agro.

There is no need for FD pulling. If you use a combat art to pull, youll pull extra social mobs. The best way to pull mobs that are in clusters is to body pull.
If you body agro one group standing next to another, youll only pull the group that you body agro.

Just so I have it right, by body pull, I'm assuming you mean to just get close to them until they agro?

I know a few of my toons have some sort of "soothe", but I haven't messed with it.

Now it is coming back to me. Pulling with a damaging spell or ability in EQ1 would put a aggro circle out equal to your aggro range which would sometimes be real bad. I guess the same mechanic was kept in EQ2. I will have to test this tonight in BlackBurrow with some large rooms. I guess wow spoiled me with the small aggro range. :P

Going to adjust the thread title a little bit.

Exactly - when body pulling - don't even go into autoattack as even an AAtk swing can cause surrounding mobs to be social - pulling with a bow or spell is just asking for trouble in some dungeons - I have also noticed that simple procs like sporescan cause mobs to be social as well

In BB with the gnolls, your fine, higher up - won't be a good look

Be aware also that the geometry in some dungeons is pretty primative in that fire off a lose AOE and your bound to pull stuff through walls causing all sorts of trouble

If you have a brawler for a MT, you can FD pull, just make sure you tag the mob you want to keep after the FD

Soothe is a quick way to get around a dungeon if you don't have something like smuggle or group invis - basically, your charging along, see a roamer coming towards you, fire off a soothe, run past it /rinse reapt till you get to where you want to be

Humans get a racial trait at lvl10 called diplomacy. It is an AoE (up to 5 mobs) soothe ability, only last for 20 seconds, but if your tank is human it is a nice pulling tool to have. I opted for this racial trait, but haven't been able to test it out since I don't know of any social agro mobs where I am at, but what I get off the chat channels is that it does work as I am expecting.. It's what I alwys used in EQ1 if the mobs were low level enough (except it was calm in EQ1) and have heard of chanters/clerics using it to run through dungeons filled with mobs that saw invis and invis to undead, although I never used it in that manner.
