So from what I am getting, assuming CL does not get nerfed to badly, if I set this up.

/castrandom Lightning Bolt, Flame Shock, Lava Burst, Chain Lightning

This will basically cast everything and if something is on cooldown when you press it again it will try something else.

I guess my question is. Can't you get long periods where your shammies actually do nothing? That is to say each castrandom could be trying to cast something on cooldown. Or will this work just fine as a single target nuke?

Also what about some AoE macros?

Do you guys just drop the AoE Totem and start tossing CLs?

Yes, that's the biggest drawback to /castrandom. If something is on cooldown, then nothing happens. However, you should be spamming the button 4-5 times a second for peak efficiency and minimize lost DPS. There's other threads that discuss shaman casting rotations here that provide more efficient ways to setup your rotation. This is, perhaps, one of the easiest ways that still does pretty decent damage. I've tried it before, and its not bad to start with.

AoE macros are a beast unto themselves. There's no "good" way to handle them, unless your just talking about dropping magma totems and spamming chain lightning with shamans. Mages, Locks, and other targetted AoE classes are far more complicated that that, though you could do something like have them run into melee and spam their character-centered AoEs (mage arcane explosion, lock hellfire, druid starfall, etc). I'm not even going to try to describe methods here for targetted attacks. Again, search the forum, as those things are always being discussed.

I was running a DK, Mage, Mage, Priest setup and their AOE was pretty easy. The DK dropped D&D for aggro control and the other guys just spammed their Insta AoEs. I usually just dragged my whole crew behind my DK letting him get the aggro. Since the Shamans are not as fluid with AoE I will probably park them and drop magma totems and spam Chain Lightning on mobs the DK pulls back to them.

Or just have the DK use his AOE while he soaks up the totem farm love and just have them single target DPS mobs. Either way probably works just fine.
