    Default Overclocking on a 9550

I've run in to a wall of sorts with my q9550 a bit earlier than I expected : (

8.5 x 425 for about 3.6ghz at 1.29v seems to be the highest I can go before the necessary voltage adjustments start spiking the temps too high (using air cooling). That overclock alone has given a noticeable boost to my FPS in Northrend, but I would still like to push it a little further.

Has anyone else with a 9550, or even just a Yorkfield chip for that matter, had similar/better results?

    471x8.5 that's 4 Ghz 24/7 with 8GB ram on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P

sadly the forum where I picked up the tweaks to get up there is down, otherwise, check-out this thread when the site comes back online : ** Official ** Gigabyte UD3 P45 Series -- EP45-UD3 / EP45-UD3R / EP45-UD3P - Page 113 - XtremeSystems Forums

That is quite a nice setup you have there : ) What sort of cooling are you using though? I think mine would explode at that voltage : /

yeah, just try to stay under 1.3625v for vcore and get a decent cooler
decent budget one is the xigmatek s1283 (normal and dark knight variant.. the DK has a bolt-thru kit included..)

i'm not the greatest OCer due to my lack of intel chipset exp... apart from some toying on p5q pro and some foxconn g31 i've little exp with non nvidiot boards.

oh, and do you know if your OC is stable?
run something like linX http://www.blazingpc.com/forum/showt...x.html?t=16284 for 100 iterations using al of your mem (do it overnight, its gonna take a while..) that will let you know if your stable.
it will also crank up your heat.. to INSANE levels
not dualboxing atm, i might get back on the ol' horse tho
