Comp just shutting down?

Would the fact that my GPU temperature reaches like 109C while I box with my fan speed at like 90+% cause my computer to shutdown in an instant?

My comp never seems to shutdown like this for any other reason and only happens while I am boxing and not all the time. My GPU temp is always high 100c+ all the time, but I don't know what I should do to correct this problem as I didn't have it before?

Any thoughts to if that is the reason my comp crashes and if so, how do I solve the high temp of my video card? BTW its an ATI Radeon 4850

Sounds like the same issues i had, only it happened while playing crysis aswell.. (since i maxxed all settings)

It isnt a quad 9950 is it?

My had a hardware fault/corruption/whatever.. I had to return the whole computer since its built by a online site who does it nearly for free and gives me warranty.

I have NO idea how to test it but they had to change it.

How much of your CPU is beeing used?

Mine was always at 100% when i ran wow without moving, after a while the comp always shuted down.

109C seems excessive and could very well cause everything to shut down. My old 8800GTXs would get up to around 100-105 and my computer would reboot. Occasionally, I would get bad artifacts when the temperature got that high. I went with after market cooling, and no more lock ups.

An easy way to test is run your computer with the case off, or worst yet, use a big floor fan and blow it in the case.

Here is some old school cpu fan assembly ... lol - make sure you have a good heat transfer compound (paste) between the CPU and heat sink. 109 C is excessive (water boils at 100 C, so that gives you an idea), so it is actually better to shut down at that temperature then to burst into flames ;-)

Agreed it is too hot. OP is talking about the GPU not CPU

I was thinking about running without the sides of my case on and see if that improves anything.

Anyone have a link to anything I could just go out and buy and pretty much install in 5-10 mins to help with cooling my GPU?

That temp is scary imo.

How is your tower setup as far as cooling goes?

Pretty basic setup just the stock coolers and a normal fan. Nothing extra is added to the system. Kind of the reason why I am asking for suggestions.

Just make sure that your computer has plenty of space around it for the airflow, it helps the temps significantly.

Rear yes front no. I think I am going to have to attempt to make some space for it. It is kind of "in a tunnel" below my desk. I never had a problem before but maybe cause spring is here it could be causing the problems with the normal air temperature being higher then normal as well.
