Default Which tradeskill to leave out?

As many here, I am 5x boxing. Since there are 11 primary tradeskills, at least one have to be missing from my group.

I hate not being able to pick everything I run across, so I'd like to have all the gathering professions.
But I also hate missing on BOP recipes (I know that, at the moment, some professions don't have BOP recipes in northrend.but that would change so..) so I'd like to have all the crafting tradeskills.

At the moment I am torn between ditching out Herbalism or Jewelcrafting.

Jewelcrafting because the pg I play solo is a Jewelcrafter/miner.
Herbalism because it just gives that crappy self hot, and I don't have it on my main (mining/eng) so it's not that great.

I don't think I will actively farm herbs, once I max the profession I'll just pick up whatever I stumble upon.
Jewelcrafting has some nice BOP gems, the BOP recipes (not that great, however) and the ability to craft gems without switching to my solo char, but I would lose the herbs.

    What do you think guys?

Since I hit 80, I never gathered ore/herbs with the whole group. I found that using just 1 character to gather this is easier (cause you don 't have to keep track of you team constantly). It used to be better to have your team, since you're less likely to be attacked on a PvP server, but since you can now loot all ore with just one click, I don't find this it issue anymore.

I rarely get any bang out of alchemy.

engineering is total crap, unless you plan on making 5 mechanohogs i think you can skip it without missing a beat. Skipping JC is crazy since its the best self-buff profession in the game right now and the daily make nice extra gold.

Blacksmithing is also not too hard to skip, its a bit expensive to level and you will use it maybe a dozen times at the top end to make the epic BOE items and belts, after that you will rarely touch it. It is nice prof for tank though for extra two sockets.

Herbalism would seem like a bad thing to skip as it supplies 2 of your professions (alchemy and inscription).

I would skip a profession that you could still farm the mats yourself and have any boe items made by someone else. Something like leather working would be good to skip in that regard, in that the bop items aren't all that.

Engineering is a popular profession to hate on right now but between the repair bots, portable mail box, ammo, explosives, bop goggles and all the other fun stuff, I really enjoy it. Even if it's not a huge money maker. That is a profession that really comes down to personal taste.

Im with the previous poster who said that herbing / mining on your team is probably not going to be fun. I plan on keeping them until ive maxed trade skills on my team and then drop them for more useful stuff.

But its up to you. If you think herbing is fun on your team then go for it. Id rather farm dailies / instances with my team and make money that way and then just buy whatever I happen to need on the AH.
Currently running 10 miners in Eve Online.

Thats ok till the next expansion comes out and you need to buy all the overpriced mats on AH. Engineering was the prof that I skipped but most of the main crafting ones could be skipped (Tailor, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking)

Got mining and herbing on my main and mining is the profession that made me the most money without doubt.

Ore prices fall later in the expansion while herbs tend to go abit up since most raiders require pots.

I levelled engineering solely for the repair bots :)

Yep, and you never know when you're going to level another tank. It's been handy for me. But indeed, it 's also very expensive ... but that's not an issue as a multiboxer. The ore in northrend respawns quickly though. Levelling it from outlands till northrend is also easy due possible use of a flying mount.

I just spent 10k gold leveling JC on 4 characters to get the daily and the JC only gems. It HURTS when you dont have at least one character that can mine =(
