Default Tanking with a prot warrior - anyone?

    Hi again,

as I already mentioned in a thread some weeks ago, I plan to switch my prot paly with my prot warrior. I currently play this prot warrior as a main in Naxx raids and he is pretty good geared up with T7.

Now, in tanking heroes for my guildmates, I have to tab-cicle targets a lot to keep aggro when all the DDs are bombing. As I use a FTL setup, would this be an issue? As every shaman in my team would switch target all the time not focus firing at all.

Any experience from someone with a prot warrior in such a scenario multiboxing?

For all my DPS macros I use something like this (I do not use a focus targeting system):

    /cast [exists,harm,nodead] DPS Spell
    /stopmacro [exists,harm,nodead]
    /assist party1

This will assist the warrior's first target. They will keep that target allowing you to tab around. When that target dies they will assist party1 again switching to whoever the warrior it targeting at that moment.

    And also have an
    /assist party1
bound to switch the dps targets manually.

*I'm at work so these may not be exactly correct. I'll will check when I get home.

    I hope this helps.

    Feider,

By any chance if you use castsequence instead of the cast the stopmacro will restart the sequence? In case you aready tried.

I have used this with cast sequence and it work just fine.

So the /assist command means, that the toons get the actual target of the tank once you execute it? But after the tank tabs around the toons will not change target anymore as long as you do not use /assist again, right?

    Now if you use:

    /cast [exists,harm,nodead] DPS Spell
    /stopmacro [exists,harm,nodead]
    /assist party1

Would this not execute the /assit after each time you press the macro? (like spamming your dps key)?

No, the /stopmacro would prevent the /assist from being executed as long as the conditions are met, ie. they are targeting a non-dead enemy target. My concern would be that if you are using tab to swap targets with your tank, that you need to make sure tab is on your dnp list or your slaves will simply switch targets as well.

I 5 box with a warrior and 4 shammies. When you say "in this situation" do you mean in raids or when your 5 boxing instances yourself?

In raids I don't bring the tank - I have a setup and macros made in such a way that I can lead with either the warrior or the 1st shaman. I don't use an FTL setup though, I use a no focus "[target=targettarget] []" method - buttloads of AE tanking practice and an odd combination of abilities that don't interfere with each other bound to the same keys on the warrior and shaman (example - taunt and CL on the same key - toss a Thunder Clap in there somewhere and I never lose aggro of the secondary and tertiary CL targets).

Good to hear of another warrior team leader out there.

Depending on the classes doing AoE. If its plate, you can rest a little easier as they can take a hit or two without you having to franctically try and taunt off (dont try to use attacks...taunt and/or mocking blow to get them attacking you). Otherwise, you want to do a few key things. Whoever is doing the highest dps, put vigilance on 'em. Reduce their threat and taunt will refresh if they do get hit. Use a 15/?/? spec to get Deep Wounds. That way if/when something like dmg shield, TC, SW, or Cleave crits you get that bleed dmg=more threat. Biggest attacks to focus on doing is anything that does aoe/cone dmg. Forget about single target attacks like Devastate, HS, etc. Your goal isn't to kill, it's to keep them attacking you so the DPS can unleash. You doing good DPS is nice but holding aggro is your primary concern. Check your info on recount or something. If you're getting alot of misses/dodges/etc you need some more hit and expertise cause you're missing out on threat. Also make sure any single target dps is being focus on your primary target. So that way it's easier for you to manage the additional mobs.
